Clarification on Exceed mechanics

I thought prior to the revamp, at 5 stacks of exceed, your skill is changed to the upgraded version. Is this still the case?

I ask because 1000 sword gives 5 stack but my skill is still blue.

Is this intentional or a bug?

@yathos yes, exceed stacks have no relationship to the stage of your exceed attack.

And Thousand Swords is very finicky, to be honest, especially because of that long cast time. At the moment the only time I deploy Thousand Swords is when there's visibly around 10 or more mobs in a map spread out all around me that i want to touch all at once. Otherwise, if the mobs are all grouped pretty close together i kinda stick with moonlit slash a lot more often.

@aerlithia: Ok just to be clear, exceed stacks had no relationship with the upgrading your skills. You still need to use 4 skills to upgrade.

Also you do use 1000 swords at all for dps? I feel like the 5 exceed stacks has no real impact since its easy to get 18 stacks

Yeah i enjoy playing them now. Being able to use all 3 skills in a row is soooooo fun specially when im mobbing!

Switching between exceed attacks no longer "resets" the exceed level of exceed attacks. Instead, what it does is give you an EXTRA exceed overload every time you switch between exceed attacks, meaning that you reach the overload cap faster, get reduced life drain faster, but also means you're able to self-heal using Release Overload more often.

I like the new system especially since they reduced Execution's attack from 6 mobs to two...

DA gameplay is so much more fluid and dynamic now. I rotate very freely between demon strike, moonlit slash, and execution in all forms of combat, bossing or mobbing, and it does wonders for my ability to dodge and reposition myself while still dealing damage. Of course I still miss the old 6-mobbing Execution just because it was so powerful, but I think it was a good rebalance.

I'm not exactly sure about the mechanics of DA, but to have your attack change to the upgraded version, you need to use that attack 5 times in a row. If you use a different "exceed?" move, it resets, but your counter will still go up. Once the counter reaches 20, you can use the move that heals all your HP and give you a buff.

No, you've misunderstood:

Thousand Blades gives you five stacks of exceed overload, but that's completely separate from the exceed level of your skills. It's just the exceed fatigue, mostly meant for so you can release overload faster.
