Network theft, through Psn. Help

So my internet was fine until yesterday I played this guy on Nba 2k14 on PS3, no lag or any problems with network connection. Then when the game was almost over, I suddenly disconnect, the game saying the server is down and unavailable at the moment.
Then I check my modem, to see that the DSL light is flashing and turning red. The 'Activity' light is constantly flashing green, so is the Ethernet.
Later I sign back in to PSN, I checked my messages...and it was that guy I played who messaged me saying " y u mad -my wifi routers name-"

How is it possible that this guy somehow stole my information through PSN, and mess up my internet networks DSL connection?
It works for a little while, very slow and cannot go to google site, leads me straight to my ISP att broadband log-in page. Very frustrating, if anyone have any idea how to fix please share thoughts.
@BobR: You can get a good 150ish slaves (or 1500ish bad ones) for that price. That's a lot of bandwidth. Probably more than a home connection can handle. Most people don't buy them for a single purpose. Usually they just want to have DDoS capabilities, play with large numbers of remote machines, or do creepy things. So it's not like they have to spend a lot of money just because they want to get back at one person for something trivial.
well I dont know if the guy was pissed off, It was a close game. I tied the score at 4th quarter and missed the game winner to go into overtime. 30 seconds left in overtime , that's when it happened, modem DSL turned red and flashing. Very strange, might be a virus my brother caught on laptop because any service from internet with devices (laptop, iphone, ps3) will disconnect because the server is down. Arg..
@BobR: I don't think you understood what I wrote. While you can pay people to DDoS targets for you, I wrote about people selling slaves (the bots in a botnet). As you put it, these kids on Maplestory can run their own DDoS-capable botnet, they just have to use tools made by someone else and pay someone else to install their server on infected machines. It's not a pay-per-unit-of-time situation. They can DDoS you as long as their slaves continue to be their slaves.
It's still a matter of paying someone in order to have the ability to DDoS someone. I doubt anyone is going to sell enough botnet slaves to do a very effective denial of service for $15. It's a matter of whether it's worth the money to DDoS somebody who disconnected during a PSN basketball game.
DDoS threats are usually bluffs, but it's not exactly difficult to DDoS a home connection. People will sell you the slaves and the software required, and it's not a terribly expensive service. If a kid can get ~$15 into an online account, this is exactly the kind of thing they could do. It's not exactly a big deal though, since you can just unplug your modem or call your ISP to change your IP. I suppose if your IP has to be publicly connected to you for some reason, if you run a mail server or use Skype for instance, it can be a bit of a bother.
Exactly... nobody on Maplestory is going to be running their own DDoS capable botnet. Anyone who really wants to "DDoS" someone has to pay somebody else to do it, and you'd have to be pretty pissed off at someone to bother paying very much for very long just to block their Internet.
Since you'd never know when the victim was trying to use the Internet, you'd have to pay someone to block them 24 hours a day, and that's not going to last very long unless you've got a lot of money to throw at it. It's not that it's difficult, it's a question of how long your money is going to last.
I can see somebody getting that pissed off at something that happened on Basilmarket or Maplestory maybe and try to block those sites, but an individual is really unlikely to be targeted when you have to pay for it.
"DDoS" is a term people who aren't very familiar with networking use to explain every unusual thing that happens.
It's also a term little kids who want other people to think they're some big deal "Internet hacker guru" use as baseless threats, often heard in Maplestory as in
"Ima DDoS u and hack u". They're generally lying and wouldn't know the first thing about "DDoSing" anyone.

DDoS means overloading someone's Internet connection by sending many, many thousands of connection attempts to their IP address, thus blocking normal Internet activity.
It's VERY difficult to do properly, and isn't the kind of thing kids on Maplestory or PSN are going to be able to do.
You can pay malicious web sites to temporarily DDoS someone, but it's expensive and not very effective effective because it only lasts as long as you can pay the site.
This kid on PSN is NOT "DDoSing" you.

It's unclear how he knows your router name, as I don't know what local information PSN transmits to the other player when you're connected over PSN

1- What "router name" did he use in his e-mail..?

It's NOT possible to hack anyone just from knowing the name of your router, and it's NOT "dangerous" for anyone to know it.
What it's called may give a clue as to whether or not to take any of this seriously.

The symptoms you described for your broadband modem indicate the router was reconnecting to your ISP.
That can happen for a lot of different reasons, but it's VERY unlikely it had anything to do with this encounter on PSN.

2- Are you having any severe weather where you're located..?

You said you have DSL..? DSL is very prone to interruptions from bad weather. If there's lightning anywhere in the State of Michigan, my DSL disconnects.
If your router loses the connection to your ISP for any reason, including weather effects, it has to reconnect to the ISP and that will result in the flashing red "DSL" light.
The blinking green "Activity" and "Ethernet" lights are normal and indicate your computer is trying to send data to the Internet.

3- Are you or anyone else in your house having any Internet connection issues with your computer, other than the Playstation..?

4- Have you ever disconnected during Playstation games before this..? Is it unusual for you to disconnect while in a game..?

5- Have you scanned your computer with BOTH an updated anti-virus scanner AND an updated anti-spyware scanner (such as "Malwarebytes Anti-Malware" )..?
Bottom line- it sounds more like you're having general Internet connection issues related to your DSL service.
It's highly unlikely this has anything to do with the interrupted PSN game or the e-mail you received.

If unplugging/replugging your modem's power connector doesn't help, you should call your ISP and tell them you're having Internet connection problems.
They can run a remote test on your telephone lines to see if there's any technical problems they can fix.
Don't tell them anything about the PSN game or e-mail, that will just confuse them.

Note- "Private Caller" just means the Caller ID was blocked. That's not unusual at all, telemarket spammers do that all the time. Most likely not related to any of this.

Well, before this happened my brother told me the internet has been disconnecting on its own randomly. Little by little, then going back on again. I dont know what he did exactly but he downloads crap load of shows/movies... so it might be a coincidence.
1.My router brand is Netgear, we didn't change the name of it to something else so the name and SSID is that...
2.It has been raining alot lately, but it stopped. Very windy as well last week, no extreme storms. No lightning at all.
3.On my iphone, the browser; same thing happens when my laptop goes to google website it directs me to my att log-in info IP page (192.***, etc) so I tried going to google on my iphone, it brings me to the log-in info page. ALSO, sometimes when I go to a site and press enter..
it will go to a blank page saying this" This document has been moved ...etc" very strange. Almost making me think my data is being spy'd transferred to someone.
4.In the past, I would disconnect ONLY cause of 2k servers bad service. Happens to others, but this situation..it made my modem flash red on DSL, and the ethernet and activity light would flash green REPEATEDLY. So this time was not 2k's fault, it was something else.
5.Scanned with Superanti spyware and malwarebytes, but it seemed to have expired.
Thanks bob for the info.

^ddos stands for distributed denial of service (attack), and put it simply they overload your internet connection to the point that it disconnects you
first time i heard of something like this happening over a game though o-O

yeah, very lame. What does ddos mean, Im not sure if its a malware/virus my brother got recently on laptop that infected the network.
@above ; what happens and how do you know that someone hacked into your ps3? It doesnt seem to be malfunctioning, just getting error 8024d...etc. sigh

Well, the PS3 was hacked recently. So I guess it was possible for them to get your IP to mess with you.
Restart your router, change wifi password use WPK2 atleast. You should get a new IP address if not contact your ISP and request new IP address.
Block that guy.
Problem solved.
I tried restarting the modem, router, changed home networks password. The wifi network security IS WPK2 personal.. I dont get how this guy messed up my internet connection. He only sent me one message including my routers name, even got a call to my home phone who was a Private caller...the hell is wrong with this guy.
