Anime and manga

So I watch anime daily. However many friends don't agree with my lack of manga involvement. In my whole life I only consistently read 1 manga, The World God Only Knows. But yea other than that I'm an anime only person. One friend actually got mad, saying anime always cut stuff out or don't do a good job. Another friend says manga requires less time than anime. So are you an anime person or manga person?

I'm leaning more towards manga for getting involved with the story, characters, setting, etc; but I will admit there's some magic to seeing it all come together in a full-blown anime.

I thought that it was a given that scripts of manga are generally 90% better than their animated counterparts, especially since anime usually takes their own take of the original source material, resulting in many plot holes and inconsistencies.

IMO Manga > Visual Novels > Anime
Manga can be a quick thing, whether you are waiting week to week / month to month for a new chapter or just starting one, you can just sit down and read a few chapters which takes at most 5 minutes. Compared to anime which takes ~24mins.

I rank Visual Novels next because they are so expansive of the story, generally getting to view the story from an interesting character that doesn't get dumbed down for the anime. But Visual novels are a big investment of time, most that i read being in either the 10-20 hours or 20+ hours areas.

And anime is third because although it gives a moving medium, it just cant live up to expectations put on it from an avid reader of the source material. Some great examples of this in the past year were, Grisaia no Kajitsu (nothing like the VN, not even close to how good it was to read), Tokyo Ghoul (rushed through the manga so fast that it skipped a ton of story), Tokyo ESP (told the story poorly). This isn't to say that anime cant live up to or exceed the expectations (Jojo's Bizarre Adventure is a good example of this) you get from reading, its just that in a general scope of things there is more crap then there is good.

And unranked is Light Novels because i don't have any real connection with them, having only read part of one.

I'm an anime guy primarily. I just enjoy being able to watch the actual scenes happen, as opposed to just reading about it. I am recently making more of an attempt to read more manga though, as I am fully aware that they possess much more freedom in terms of creating good character development, among other things.

I like both but i'm an anime person. I feel like i can appreciate a well done anime more than the manga.

I basically always like the manga more than the anime... but sometimes I'll read/watch both. I'm into light novels and visual novels as well.
EDIT: Should probably say I always like the source material more than adaptations.

manga by far
takes less time
more up-to-date
idk I just like comics in general
Though I generally only read mangas that were originally mangas. Not many adapted from anime or visual novels.

anyways, manga vs anime is a personal choice. whatever works for you.

I love the detail and full story that a manga gives, along with the fact that the amount of time that actually goes into a chapter is ridiculous so I respect it as well. Animes are just adaptations of the source material in most cases so I would rather turn to the manga, although I do like watching anime when I feel lazy or just because the manga was good as well. Overall, I like them both but in the end I have more love towards manga.

I enjoy watching anime, but I find the manga source material is usually better.

I watch a lot more anime than I read manga, but I definitely prefer manga. I prefer interpreting scenes and emotions in my head, rather than having them forced onto me when they are animated.

Manga is better because my imagination is sufficient in filling in the gray areas. As opposed to animations where they force things on to you with much less room (or time) for imagination and you can't really do anything about it other than pause or skip, but that just ruins the whole experience.
The simplicity and efficiency that comes with manga just wins out overall.

I was more of a watcher until recently got hooked onto Tokyo Ghoul manga because of my friend, because of this I recently started to read more than watching anime.

@0kevqn: not if it's badly animated and elongated to save money as a good number of anime fights are now

edit: although to be fair they have been getting better lately
why does making it longer make it better? LOL
Making it animated makes it better

manga

anime requires more money so it's harder to find a good one
very often anime will have slow pacing to cover up for its low budget
worst of all i have this problem where if there are subs then i read through the subs quickly and i'm left waiting for the next shot, and that waiting period every time they talk just makes anime seem slower than it already is. i'd look at the visuals, but usually there's not much to look at. i find that anime very rarely fulfills its potential as a moving visual medium. a lot of things are sacrificed to have the characters move

the black and white of manga has grown on me, it's charming and comfortable and makes creepy things creepier. since there's no color it emphasizes the importance of well placed lines. there's no music, which is a shame, but that doesn't mean there's no sound; a skilled mangaka can evoke sound or silence just as well as an anime can. same goes for movement; any decent mangaka will be able to make a character move on a page, and sometimes the action is more frenetic and exciting than in anime. i thought everyone had the imagination to appreciate movement within a static visual medium but a lot of my friends cant stand manga so i guess not?

It's true that anime cut out things from the manga, but honestly why in the world would someone get angry over that?

I'm anime+manga I guess. I like watching Anime because it means I don't have to move or do something else at the same time. I like manga because its more detailed and there is more.
