That's what I have. Thinner than a paper notebook and gets 12 hours of battery life. I do some pretty heavy image processing for school and it never slows down.

Looking at upgrading to the 13" retina pro, the new price + haswell is pretty hard to beat.

Word. With the added reliability it's worth it for school. Not to mention the Macbook Air is one of the cheaper alternatives for a Haswell Ultrabook.

Personally, I think that the new Alienware design does not look as good as the MX series, but this is just my opinion. Alienware is overpriced for its specs, but there isn't a lot of choice among brands that produce gaming laptops ie. the only major competitor is Asus. Also, Asus doesn't have anywhere near the customisation that Alienware has (I'm talking about the parts here, not the lights). However, to upgrade the Alienware to its limits is just a clear waste of money, as laptops are always less efficient on a price-per-part ratio and Alienware, as mentioned previously, is overpriced.
The laptops are nice though. I don't have any issues with my M14x nor my M17x. Dell's service is also fairly reliable.

Agreed! I can take my laptop to the mall for service instead of shipping it out of the country.

Honestly, I've worked as a technician for a few years and one day the return key on my laptop broke. I literally just walked into the Apple store, told them the part I needed, and they gave it to me. No hassle.

That saves me time, and as a result, money.

OT: l bought an Area 51 back in like 2010 or 2011 forr.. $2600? and it was by far the worst investment of my life when l could have taken the time to build one from scratch for roughly 60% of the cost. Alienware is entirely name brand pricing but their setups really are aesthetically pleasing. l ended up stripping it down and building on a custom after that got outdated so it wasn't that bad

I have an m14x. I'd definitely say Alienware is overpriced for what you get, but that's the same for laptops in general. If you move a lot, get a laptop. Otherwise just build a good desktop and a netbook or something (tablet maybe).

I have an Alienware x51, i know i paid a little bit more than i should've but it's small, compact and packs a punch in terms of specs, so I'm happy

Alienware is so 2000's. now it's all about the Raspberry Pis.

For me at least, beyond superior build quality those are two factors I'll gladly pay more for.

Very overpriced, there are many other alternatives of gaming laptops with equal or greater specs for a cheaper cost. However, you still get that cool factor of owning one
