Look at the yahoo comments.
Top 3:
"and they're going to hold the world cup and the olympics"
"That's it folks, cancel the Brazilian World Cup, easy to find another country at the last minute, many other countries have already hosted the World Cup and so have everything in place, this is beyond disgraceful."
"And the boneheads allow major tournaments in these places."

Do they really have to blame the ENTIRE COUNTRY OF BRAZIL for this incident?

@misslime: Actually, I was talking in terms of events like this often being used to cover up wide spread political injustice. As it tends to, as well as what you said, be used to cover up populace morale. Which was the original issue, before it became essentially the most costly hosting of the World Cup. It is to be said I am fully aware of the ramifications of them not hosting, at this point, which is implausible at best regardless. I can't imagine this having any lasting impact in terms of initial earnings for Brazil anyways, though.

@Telatsu: It's not that they don't want the world cup to be there, it's just that they'd rather have the money that's being spent in the stadiums to be spent to better the quality of their lives, like making more hospitals and schools and stuff. I'm sure they'd like the world cup to be there, there are just things that should come first in the priorities for the government.
I'm pretty sure the goverment was expecting to make money off the tourists that would come to Brazil in the events, but if stuff keeps going this way, a lot of people will give up on going there in worry of being attacked/robbed/kidnapped etc.
However, since the stadiums have already been built and the money's already been spent, the world cup and the olympics making less money than they should have could actually prove bad for them in that case, since the government'll just end up with less money it had initially.

@misslime: Perhaps, although since the populace seemingly do not actually want the World Cup to be there, this may prove fortuitous for them in this instance.
World Cup.
The Olympics too.
It's actually quite unfortunate that this happened just a bit before the world cup; even though it's an isolated incident and people there are just as outraged by this, the fact it happened recently might distort people's views on the country.
I'm not even sure they built a stadium in Maranhao.
@jjgpirate: that too

What did they say to the doctor at the hospital? The doctor is like "woah, what happened to this player? he's in pretty bad shape. he may not make it."

"well, you should see the other guy."
The doctors had to stitch back his arms and legs to make him presentable for the funeral.

I thought it was gonna be some place in the middle east or africa not the place that is going to host the next world cup.

The referee stabbed a player to death after getting punched by him and then a few fans killed him.

@MachoCalvin
Player hits referee for bad decision>Referee stabs him to death>fan gets pissed>ties up referee>beat him up>cut off limbs>finally cut of head and put it on a stick in the middle of the field.
