The reason they look identical is because Luminous is the "light"/humanity that the White Mage cast away when he became corrupted into the Black Mage.

It's my dad. The White Mage before he turned into the Black Mage

The White Mage was a gifted young magician who became a powerful magician at a very young age. He was so good that he had to leave Ellinia because nobody could teach him anything any more.
The White Boy (haha) studied the properties of light magic and wanted to find the 'true light', the purest form of light there was. He wanted to help people by finding the true light but he was the only one capable of doing that so he went off into the woods to study by himself.

People found out about this talented boy and they went to the White Mage to study with him and help him find the true light. They started a club (I forgot the name) but it was dedicated to studying light. Luminous was a student in this club. The White Mage needed lots of concentration to work on his magic so he always had to lock himself up inside his room to experiment.

The problem was that when you make light that's really bright, you also make shadows and darkness. The brighter the light, the darker the shadows. As the White Mage got closer to the true light, he also got closer to the true form of darkness. This darkness slowly corrupted him over the years and he became a lonely young man who couldn't control the growing darkness.

In his final experiment to look for the true light, he failed. Instead, he found true darkness. The true darkness took over him and he gained the powers of the dark magic. It was at this moment where the White Boy became the Black Mage and destroyed his workshops of light. He went on to nearly destroy the Maple World.

lol i thought you were joking about white mage. i didn't finish the story yet but i was curious. Dam i really hoped he was Luminous. They had the same hair and eye colors.

besides, our black mage is so ugly and their white mage is so pretty. I want them to switch! Why can't we get the white one?

He's the White Mage before becoming the Black one, but.... I'm kinda curious as to who he REALLY is because he comments about knowing your character being different than the other ones... Hmmmm... Nexon what are you hiding...

You have to do the grand athenaeum to understand his story, but that's the black mage before he turned evil, he was called the white mage.
