How often do you feel lonely in Maplestory now?

Hi everyone,

I have started playing MS since 2008. I slowed down in 2010 since I had to prepare for college, and eventually quit. I really missed the game so I started playing again this year, but I find myself so so soooo lonely in the game now. I used to just sit down in Henesys and chat with people and make really good friends with them. I would add them on my BL. We would say hi everytime we login and the guild actually stick together. We would call each other for zakum and party quiz. Now I can solo zakum without even trying, like he is just a green snail from victoria island... Even then, I was told that my attach is below average (like I care for the numbers anyway...). To be honest, I didn't care for leveling either, I was stuck at lvl 70 back then but i didn't feel the rush to max out to lvl 200 anyway. I enjoyed the team work so much better. I could have been grinding mobs and level up faster, but I did party quest cuz it was fun, why else would i play a MMO anyway.

Now i came back and there are a lot of people with fancy things and impossible stats (WTF!) but they dont talk, ever, they just solo all day and ignore the rest of the world. Also, free market used to be filled with people but now even in ch1 there are like 3 people and 3 out of them are spamming... I feel so lonely with so many people around me... there is still guild and party options, but they are not useful... WHAT HAS CHANGED EVERYONE? I am so sad, MS was my childhood...

This is gonna be a lot.
I started playing when i was in 6th grade. I've been on and off for multiple months at a time, but have always ended up coming back when i'm off of school. I'm going into my senior year of college now, and just started playing again for the first time in half a year, but all my friends quit long before that. I'd say i've been a solo player for probably 4-5 years now. I'll make some new friends, join a new guild that's active, but it never lasts long and the friends aren't anything like what they were before.
The friends i had in maple were made over hours of grinding in ant tunnel, kpq, lpq, and things that were actual challenges and required cooperation. nowadays people seem to want to be as distanced as possible on the rare occasion they need someone else to do something.
That being said I'm also a totally different person from when i started playing, and don't need close maple friends like i may have.
I have probably over 15 high level characters in Chaos, and with all the link skills and some funding i haven't been a weak nub in god knows how long. But just yesterday I made a new char in chaos on an ancient account for the 20k maple points, and realized that not having anything in the game made me more tempted to party with other low levels to train. It felt like i could actually benefit from working with someone else for the first time in a long time, which was nice.

Why do i still play? Why come back to this empty game? Honestly the combination of extreme boredom and something oddly satisfying about the games play style?

I only came back to play with friends. Otherwise this game serves no purpose, in my opinion.

Funny to see so many people feeling the same way as me. I guess my reason of playing this game now is to revisit my childhood, but I have decided to move on a while back. I still love the cuteness of the game and there are a lot of the landscape that i can never forget. I do not wish the game to die thou, and i am pretty sure it will never go back to its old form, after all the game grow with us, to the better or worse, i don't know.

I have that feeling every time i try to find a meaning to stay on the game.
One thing i realize now is the fact that i wasted alot of my life to this game my social life my money time with my friend who i pushed away because all i wanted to do was play the game.
What started out as a way to have fun shortly after became an addiction in which i spent half of my money all on the game only to years later be bullied out of the game.
Which i kinda think of it as a good thing its time to move on at my age so will be nice to see how these players can feed their addiction once more of players like me who were the ones who bought their gear leave the game.

Maybe it is just me joining a fairly active guild recently but I don't feel lonely in MS anymore.
What they need to do is make bosses much harder and require the team work. They also need to make it so that unfunded people can get funded through in game means and not have to spend thousands of dollars on the game. It was perfectly fine to up the damage cap, add potential, and all that fancy stuff in game. It wasn't fine for them adding it in the game and basically requiring tons of NX to get access to it. If they added additional options, made potential less of a gamble by taking out the crap stats, and increased the limits on items in the reward shop to be purchased it would be far better.

Also take away the stupid psok, sok, and sharing tags. Take away all the untradable crap and make it tradable through our account only. This is our gear and our stuff we should have the right to use it on all our characters. Oh and remove the stupid restriction of tranfering cash items through out the account. That would actually give people more incentive to purchase NX if we were able to use it on all characters. If Nexon done this I can pretty much gaurentee you the game will be more social and more fun than it is now. Right now it's a solo game since it revolves on pure NX and seperates the funded from the unfunded in a big way.
Even if you could hit cap, what will you do next? You can have fun soloing all the end game bosses... and then what? It's a little to late to do this, but it needs to be much much harder to get better damage, especially with nx.
I do agree psok needs to go away, since it's a dumb tax discouraging trade for everyone.

I wished nexon made more party quests that require a lot of players, effort, and organization to start and put okay incentives at the end to encourage players to participate (outside of the pq entrance, because it's only really useful for systematic grinding). Getting together to do cwkpq was the most fun I've had in a while

I feel the same way. I don't know about the numbers but I wonder if maple is dying... Funny thing is I see more hackers now, most of them demon slayers

It's nice to think of "what ifs" or "nexon should do this and that" situations, but in the end NexonNA is a company built for making money. For any gaming company its always Money > Players. If only a handful of people quit everyday, the game is still making the most money compared to all the other nexon games.
That's why Maplestory is dying. Nexon is putting too much emphasis on the 'money' part, and it is making everyone leave. After the non pay-to-win players leave, the money whales will soon follow suit because they have nobody to play with, or in other words, compare their huge damage to. No players means no money.
Nexon is just a bad company in general. They are screwing the game up like they don't even know what they're doing.

Just cause increasing the difficulty of bosses doesnt necessarily mean that everyone is going to start partying up. Sure some people might start partying as its easier to finish, but sooner or later someone is going to come up and say "I soloed such and such in under" and people will strive to do the same, resulting again in solo play.
If the game added multiple ways of hitting max damage, then the game literally becomes too easy and too boring. Would you want to play a game for more than a month when EVERYONE is hitting the exact same damage as you?

It's nice to think of "what ifs" or "nexon should do this and that" situations, but in the end NexonNA is a company built for making money. For any gaming company its always Money > Players. I mean its how you make it I feel it sometimes but it's preventable if you initiate convo first bc there could be another mapler just like you (like us :o)

tbh I can't really complain about not having as many conversations/interactions as I used to when I'm hardly ever the one to initiate it myself. Sure it's harder to find people but I can either stop whining or start trying. Maplers obviously feel the need for that social aspect but for some reason aren't as outgoing as they used to be, or don't really have any ice-breakers lying around, so I might as well strike up a conversation if I want one, right? Shouldn't be much harder than that. I am 100% guilty of not doing it though.

Useful topics to make new friends over:
* mergers, how does it make you feel
* fork nexin and their crap servers dying all the time
* bosses/dailies are boring (invite person over to do them with you)
* who were they/you in old maple, nostalgia trip for days
* literally anything instead of going afk yourself and then feel lonely

Yeah, everytime I log in it reminds me of how dead the game is. I usually only play to get event items..

Playing uno the other night was the first spontaneous and fun interaction I've had since I came back for the anniversary celebration. I'm playing atm as a panic stress time sink instead of colleging. Smart life choices right hurr.

MS is very anti-social now, Nobody really has conversations anymore even in training or bossing or pqs, if u truely want someone to talk to, you're going to have to go to henesys but yea it does suck now can't really do anything about it now

Recently my real life girlfriend quit and stopped playing, she's been telling me to quit as well but i'm still somewhat enjoying the game, trying to sell my gear though. It's a lot more lonely without her because we used to do everything together, flag race, daily bosses, cra, magnus, etc. I don't enjoy the game as much without her playing, i'm also starting to dislike my guild/alliance, so i'll need to find a new one.

Then just quit? If you're not enjoying playing the game, then what's the point in wasting time and playing at all? It's like pursuing a career that you have no desire for.
Why not just focus more on school or have fun in life?

I somewhat felt the same as you before quitting, all of my old MS friends gone, never got to see them again after I got busy with life, came back, no one to talk to. To me, this game has turned into a P2W shtfest with no real challenge, but I don't really blame Nexon they had to make money somehow, I'm just disappointed in how the game has turned, there has been some great improvements sure, but never has this game been more P2W than it is now, and the community just doesn't feel the same as it was before for me. Time to move on.

that's not even the problem, things are too easy now. just trade out of game info and talk that way and chill when you're in-game otherwise

Just move on dude. You're probably in your 20's now. Those people you missed actually has a life now or moved on to better games. Stop trying to relive the past.
OT: Might i suggest trying a different Maplestory not run by Nexon?
