Brutal Initiation and Hazing
Hazing:To initiate, as into a college fraternity, by exacting humiliating, strenuous, and dangerous performances from or playing rough practical jokes upon.
To me I think this process is sickening. The worst part is that people i've known have gone through these types of processes just recently. 2 guys I know had to strip down naked, go on their knees blindfolded, and be forced to drink a whole jar of moonshine dry. Whatever they threw up had to be collected and swallowed again. Afterwards both were "aluba'ed" several times. (Btw they're still naked and covered in vomit) Although this may be nothing compared to other hazing stories, the reality to see young adults break down emotionally and cry is what I find so disturbing. I've never seen 18 year old guys cry in my life until now.
Btw one of the guys who backed out of the hazing and was forcefully beat up. The other guy who went through this entire procedure had to go to the hospital to get his stomach pumped.
BTW for those who don't know what "aluba" is, it's the process of grabbing a guys legs, spreading them apart, and ramming their "sensitive areas" straight into a pole really hard.
So, what do you guys think?

I am fully aware of the benefits of a fraternity.
Would I go through any hazing to acquire acceptance? Hell no.
Wtf.
I hope it isn't that bad here in Canada.
Canadian college is comparatively boring.
Over here it is anyway, I guess it has to do with the fact that there aren't really any dorms.
Hazing has been made illegal by most colleges these days. It's a tradition that every brother has to go through. For the most part, I see nothing wrong with the pledge process. Sometimes fraternities do go overboard, but the point of these exercises isn't to treat you like crap. It's to strengthen your bond with your fellow pledge brothers. I'm in a fraternity, and I went through Hell Week and everything. Honestly, if I could, I'd gladly pledge again. It was the most fun I've ever had.
Looks to me the majority agrees with you. The only reason why you find it okay is because you have done it and there is no turning back. Fraternity is stupid, just a bunch of losers making fun of each other. There are many, many ways to make REAL friends.
wtf that's not even hazing, that seems like torture (getting a pole shoved up your butt as a guy..?)
Err the pole wasn't "shoved" up his butt, but rather crushing his sausage and jewels simultaneously.
wtf that's not even hazing, that seems like torture (getting a pole shoved up your butt as a guy..?)
Haha. College people who think they need frats to fit in are the lowest bottom feeders of any human.
Any fraternity at my college would quickly be disbanded should reports of such hazing reach the authorities.
We've already had a recent lethal alcohol poisoning, so...
I've always thought fraternities were stupid and their initiations stupider. By social standards I'm apparently a hipster, so I don't think I'll have any trouble avoiding fraternities in college...
Yes, it's terrible. People shouldn't be so stupid as to agree to go through it in the first place.
Someone I knew got killed in the process of being initiated into something called Muteki something.
What is this "Muteki something" that you speak of?
There was a movie made about hazing and it was based on my school from 20-30 years ago or something, I can't remember the name right now.
Our wrestling teams hazes freshman, but we're not hazing them as bad as we were hazed when I was a freshman
Wtf.
I hope it isn't that bad here in Canada.
I think it's pretty stupid.
I think that's pretty stupid. I really don't care about acceptance or that fraternity. What do I gain? Pretty much nothing. I want people to accept me for what I am and for what I like to do. If those people make me act like that I rather not get involve in their lives. I only take real people who respect my views of life as my friends.
The initiation is optional over here (don't know if it is in the US). You just need to buy a membership card and you're in. There was however a freshman who had to go to the hospital because she had to eat something she was heavily allergic to (she didn't know it was in the thing she had to eat).
@Biotic: Reductions at parties and on books, summaries of course books, sport competitions,...
you're such a gdi
What if people dont do it?
But, what do people gain being in a fraternity?
Exactly! I think peer pressure and acceptance is all they want. I would never go through such humiliating costs though.
