Convincing my parents to let me drive alone?

This morning I went to the DPS to test for my driver's license, and sure enough, I passed. So after getting my drivers license I decided that I wanted to go out and eat with some friends as a celebration, but being the typical asian my dad is, he said no. He doesn't trust me by myself behind the wheel even though I literally drive the speed limit opposed to driving 5 over, etc. They say they will let me drive when I'm 17, which makes no darn sense because I went through all this trouble to drive at an early age and they won't allow me to. How can I convince them to let me drive alone?

Do you really think that the OP, which is 16, would even have his own car let alone pay for insurance?

Here's how to convince him.

"Dad, I'm driving to McDonald's". Take the car keys and just go. What's the worst he can do, ground you?
Well, DPS around here is called the Texas Department of Public Safety.
It's DMV here in Texas too. "Department of Motor Vehicles"
Anyways, for good reason. Just because you passed doesn't mean anything. It means you know how to operate a vehicle, it does not mean you are in any way a safe driver. Just show them you're safe. Don't worry about it, they'll let you drive alone soon. Trust me though, you will begin to hate driving after awhile. I started driving at 16 too, and I can't stand driving now. Dealing with people on the road gets tiresome really fast. Congrats on passing though.

It's not that your wreckless, teens your age don't have the experience yet, you can get yourself in situations and something wrong can go happend because of that

passing the test doesn't imply you're a good driver, lots of parents are protective of their kids. He'll come around eventually

I think that's against the law. Not allowed to drive solo for awhile

I've tried but my dad thinks I'm reckless even though I clearly passed the test with flying colors.

Take them on a few driving trips and convince them you know what you're doing.

Don't think you can do much other than that.
