The old one was better

People keep saying that the old maple was better, or the old maple community was better.
I don't have a problem with an opinion, but honestly, these guys are full of it.

I'm betting 95% of the people who say this have only been around 3 years. MAX.

I've played on and off since beta, and I can tell you, neither the game, nor the community has depreciated in game or community quality. Anyone who tells you otherwise has played a cruel, cruel trick on you. "Old" GMS was brilliant, good times, loved it. But I can tell you, I'm sure most players wouldn't be able to play long in those conditions, it took week(s) to get to level 30 alone, I'm talking old school 6+ years ago maple. In those few years I can tell you, I didn't get to 3rd job once (this might have had something to do with my youth, yeah, I used to think it was wierd 15 year olds+ played the game, but now I'd be a hypocrite, I'm 15 btw).

Not saying that the old maple wasn't fun, but honestly, I'd prefer to visit those times in memories, rather than actual gameplay. Disregarding the events that is, I'd sure like those back, the christmas events were definitely better than the last one, am I the only one who was expecting more out of it?

The point is, don't talk about something you clearly haven't got much of an idea, or at least, be specific and say that when you mean "old" maple, you mean, before Big bang, or before the New Job overload (DBs, mechs, arans, evans, wh, all that jazz). I honestly don't think that most of the people talking about the "fail community" know what they're on about.

I think the community hit an all time low around when CPQ came out, there were so many angry damage hoarders (omg, it takes you more than 3 hits to kill rombot, hah, what a noob, etc etc), not to mention the many people who would waste your time for plenty of time giving people "free wins" with you at the bum end, oh and the many many many many people who didn't make the effort to speak english in an english based game.

The current community is great. I <3 you guys . Most of you are intelligent enough to put in good contributions into threads and whatnot, and have fair ideas too. Not to mention most of you make the effort to learn at least SOME english.

PS: inb4 some troll completely ruins my entire argument in the last paragraph with a comment like "Lol, qq noob, you can't level in before big bang, haha"

@sordojohn: That is very true. I still have friends I met ages ago, but any new friends I make are gone within weeks.

To me, the community was better because of the unfair difficulty of leveling. People would hang out more because let's face it, it was really hard to level.
There weren't too many ksers, but there definitely were, at least once the game gained more popularity.
About hackers - There were alot, but mostly just hackers that hacked to level, not to dupe or destroy other peoples' account. (Because in all, most of them were noob chars) Those who got hacked were higher and either hacked to get there, or played tons, and were bent on leveling.

I'm from beta and believe old maple was better. And yes this is my personal opinion.
But I have to agree with you, as much as I miss old maple I think its best it stays as memories.

@calabari: I guess the difference to me is that with fast levels and such, sometimes people get bored of characters quick.

The old community was not better on the whole, but you could have had one friend for years, I remember I met a guy on maple Island, and I was his friend for ages because back then people would play one character for longer. He was a great friend, I remember during the christmas event we banded together and collected boxes until we had enough for a christmas tree spear .

These days I buddy someone and a week later they quit, but meh, I play with real life friends mostly.

the diffrerence between the "old" and "new" maplestory is the worth of an accomplishment.
for example

"hey i killed zakum"
old maplestory: "OMG THATS SO FRIKKEN COOL! how did you do it? what was it like?"
new maplestory: "cool... whatever.."

its like playing an older pokemon game, then getting the new game and finding out that the starter pokemon start out at lvl 50.

@sordojohn
I've been playing for 5 years, and I can honestly say that the old community was better.
However, if I had a choice, I would not go back.

The only good thing about "old" times I guess was that the hackers weren't as big, nowadays the hackers rule the ms economy and they mass dupe a lot of stuff, etc. which makes the game so much more less enjoyable than what it would've been

I do prefer the old maple, I joined in about Spring 07 and I do agree that the community has had a downward turn. Now more than ever there are people willing to ks you for items, even if you ask politely! I remember a guy gave me my first 5 mil, just for having a good conversation with him. But it's not all bad, I have had fun with lvling a group of noobs. And Aran/Evan aren't really a part of the job overload if you ask me(im just saying that because Evan is my main ).

i think the game should stay where it is not but the community is bad... about 2 years ago, there were very little hackers, only scammers and most people could avoid the scams. there was more NICE players and not mean ones that ks you every time you go on and follow you around channels and stalk you and of how old... im talking pre pirates!

The old maple was better when nobody would really care for damage and levels

people like the old maple better because the old maple was better than the new maple but it still sucked all together.

I dont get why people are mad that you can be productive in Maple story now now. People dont sit around and chat because you can actuality do stuff. plus why would I join a video game to be friendly and chat? I can instant message people or use Facebook to do that.

No I want get strong and level up. Everybody is just mad now that its alot easier. Well I for one like easier leveling and as for people caring. This is the internet. Your not so special anybody cares when you do anything. Might as well get used to it. I played maple of and on since beta and early maple sucked. It felt like I was powerless to do anything. Now I actually can level and experience my character.

As for people being friendly I dont remember that at all. I got picked on and made fun of. funny how I only remember that kind of thing.

So yeah of course anybody can say you like old MS but I also have a right to say it I didn't like it. Remember that.

training was horrible back then! Everyone would just crowd into one area, no wonder everyone lvled to dam slow. And hackers were wild back then, it was so annoying to see them vac all the monsters at HHG1, made it impossible to train & they were in like every channel.
And guys honesty, just admit you. You just thought it was better cuz you didn't know HOW to play the game!
This thread has been done over and over again. Why do you guys even bother..

Fact is, people have different opinions.

One thing you might not have liked, someone else might have.
One thing you loved, someone else might have hated.

Mind blowing, I know. I only found out these things when I was five.
I'm making the point that, many people including you have no idea what they are talking about, in most cases, because they think that bsing about the time they've played the game makes them "cooler", when in reality, they didn't even experience the game until pirates came out at best.

Also, I'm going to point out I completely forgot about the long boat trips.
I believe @aznstyles was an actual ol skool player over ts. If u think the community is the same or better then you're either lying or u hardly played. Ms was smaller therefor closer knit. Everyone had an equal chance to be godly and you could actually buy nice fear in fm without having to wage a three week long h/o bidding war.
Lol thanks for the compliment but im about maybe 2weeks-1month after beta =/

There are always good and bad bits from each era. A mix of the good would be the best way to go, but of course everyone has differing opinions on what stuff was good.

Well from personal experience. Old maple was better. People that I KNEW didnt care about lvling so much and now theyre all lvling so fast and all they want to do is grind or compare ranges and upgrade. Like thats cool and all but people never just chill out now

community has always had its faults, but i think the damage/superiority aspect has definitely gotten worse (mostly b/c of potential). it also bothers me that tons of things are in the bils when it used to be fairly rare.
