You can leave mirror world whenever you want.

I personally found Xenon quite fun, to be perfectly honest. I liked them before the nerf, I like them even after it. Beam Dance is just TOO fun for Evo.

Kaiser too, if you like dragons and having a 'super' transformation, as well as rather nice damage and effects.
Just level a bunch of link-skill classes to 120 (or 70). Through that process you'll figure out what you like and don't like. Start with mercedes (link skill is an exp buff).
This method has been helpful for me as well. Plus, as you're initially only doing 70 levels or so, you don't have to be concerned with funding.

I am going to partly ignore "doesn't need much funding" because "starter."

Mihile - (arguably) the most noob friendly class available.
Battle Mage - Easy to train, pot usage is minimal, int equips are relatively cheap
Paladin - easy to train, pot usage, is virtually non-existent
Luminous - easy to train, pot usage, minimal

The above classes has basic play styles.

When I was doing link skills, I liked playing the Phantom, and not because of the glitched Frozen Orb that was recently fixed.
You get some cool looking skills, and free ship rides.
