@Totos : Just came back to this from a long time.
Alright. Uhm... the other tiny schools are actually amazing, for example, City College. Their programs are truly amazing. It's just that their other programs... such as band, art classes, etc. are pretty stinky.
For your list of other regular high schools, you do know there are hundreds more.. right? You can't just pick 4/hundreds ..
academically speaking, I don't even think Bayside should be last. I'd put it near 2/3 from your list of four.
sorry for this by the way, thought I'd voice my opinion out.
It was just a suggestion, like I said, he doesn't have to follow it.
It's his choice, I'm just sharing what I chose during the high school process.
He doesn't need to choose 12 high schools. 4-6 is enough tbh, he'll get accepted into at least one of them. I think zoned is automatic acceptance? Not 100% sure doe.
And no, you're wrong. Academically speaking, Townsend is #1 and Cardozo is #2 from my list of choices. Then follows Francis then Bayside. If you Google "The Top high schools in NY 2012" or something like that from NYPOST you'll find the top 10, top 11-30, top 31-50, etc. I think Francis is slightly better than Bayside, but that's just my thought. According to the NYPOST, Bayside is ranked the lowest from my list of four. Dunno if it's accurate or not but I agree with it.

#Stuyvesant all day. If you go I might be able to hook you up with a senior locker since I probably need a locker buddy anyway. Just saying.

Anyways, this is my suggestion but you don't have to follow it.
You should first take the SHSAT. If you get into either Stuyvesant, Bronx Science, or Brooklyn Tech then you should head there. You could also try York since you live in Queens. The other schools are just tiny schools that are on college campuses. Tbh, I don't even consider them specialized high schools.
For regular high schools, try Townsend, Cardozo, Francis, then Bayside. It's in order from the best to worst academically.
LOOOL, why do I always get to hyped up with these type of threads.

SHSAT'S might be taken out? WOW. I remember doing really bad on that. o.o
Anyway, frany and bayside are okay, and I think Cardozo has a nice davinci program. /is biased
Anyway good luck on high school apps!
Bronx Sci, East West, Townsend Harris, and B Tech. Other schools are bad or filled with condescending a holes. Especially Frank Sin. And LaGuardia Kids. Don't go to Bayside, your going to make new friends anyways.
but bayside, is basically where all the popular kids, and my friends are going. That and franny. soo like yeah, im taking the shsat, but if i don't pass, im prob going to franny or bayside.
@Totos: I swear MTA is never going to put countdown clocks for letter trains. I would not be as mad if they tell us on the spot if there's delay so we can transfer or something.
Which trains do you take?
yeah, try to get into a specialized school while it's still prestigious. i heard people are pressuring bloomberg to get rid of the SHSAT because the test is apparently "racist"

EDIT: http://www.naacpldf.org/update/ldf-and-others-file-complaint-against-new-york-city-specialized-high-schools-challenging-admi
So they want to circumvent stupidity by pressuring with race? (Don't get offended since I'm Latino)
Cliques form in school with thousands of kids still. And here's a thread I found about New York City subway on google. http://www.basilmarket.com/forum/2032626/2/Rant_against_Metropolitan_Transit_Authority.html You can ask me more questions about subway and I can answer.
I hate the NYC subway system. Rude people, overcrowded, dirty, etc. There are always delays and people hogging the seats on the subway. Especially those black women.

Hey cool I'm in Cardozo's DaVinci program.
If you can get into that it's a pretty good program.
But if you did good in shsat's than maybe a specialized high school?
You get to ride a train! I have never once been on a subway in my entire life, you have no idea how fun that sounds to me. (Although I've heard that it's an unpleasant experience.)

And plus, with thousands of students it must be hard for exclusive cliques to form. Try moving to a small southern town where everybody knows each other and shuns outsiders. I've been going to school here for over six years and I still struggle to fit in.

Yooooo, which middle school do you go to?
Okay, here were my options when I went through the high school process.
Townsend: Humanities program
Cardozo: DaVinci program
Francis: Math & Science program
Bayside: Environment and Technology program
Yeah, I only chose the screened programs. LOOL. I don't know what Ed. Op means. You should Google it or asked your guidance counselor? Duh?
@Ickest: D: No one use the normal convention of grading out of 100? High school should still be a place of learning.

@Ickest: What the hell is 4.0? And isn't school to learn? (Or maybe I'm detached from current high schoolers)
