Allergic To Fruits?
Ok, so a few years ago I was eating a mango, and I realised that my throat, lips and tongue were itching, and that it was getting worse as I continued eating it.
Since then, I've experimented with lots of fruits, and I've actually gotten really sensitive; I've almost suffocated from my throat swelling up or whatever.
The thing is, when I was a kid, I'd eat lots of fruit. I mean, a lot. Every day. And I'd have no trouble whatsoever.
Is it possible to develop an allergy to fruits?
Is it weird to be allergic to almost any fruit?
Mangoes, bananas, kiwi fruit, oranges and melons irritate me a lot after just a few bites.
I'm a bit more tolerant with things like apples, grapes and berries.
Oddly enough, I've never had a reaction to pineapple. Pineapple is the only fruit I know that doesn't set me off...
Has anyone ever experienced anything similar? Does anyone know what the hell is going on? ._.
My first reaction was age 13, and this has been going on for about 5 years...

I can't eat oranges, pineapple, and pears.
yes its possible like most people are allergic to apple,
their lips get all itchy, but it's not like a severe allergic reaction
@Watermelon: That's really good . Similar thing happened to me with grass and animal dander. Those shots, as much as I disliked them when I was younger, were really helpful.
Not that I know of. When I was little, I had allergy shots weekly to gradually increase my immunity to certain allergies. In my adulthood, I outgrew several but I have also developed several. See if you can find an allergist near you, get tested. If you do test positive, they will be able to work on medical therapy techniques to help your body adjust and grow some immunity such as shots/scratches or medication.
I'm allergy to many fruits and other stuff, and my doctor suggest me taking those shots as well.
I used to be allergic to bananas but now I'm fine with them.
Nah it's possible . I really hope you grow out of it without needing a doctor, please be aware though that allergens CAN become severe overtime as well. It just depends on body chemistry.
@Eeveepony: *Sigh* I hate going to the doctor. Maybe after I finish Uni...
Well, thanks anyways. At least I know it's actually possible, and not just all in my head. ._.
Allergies can develop at any time, and go away at any time. As much as I LOVE pineapple, I can't eat it because my tongue gets itchy and swells. This is pretty new as well. Your allergies tend to stick near the tropical/citrus variety, however the pineapple thing is weird for you. You should see if you can make an appointment with an allergist to get tested, that is how I found out most of my allergies (such as wheat).
Ya, pineapples are a little weird but I heard if you soak it into salt water and try eating it, it won't be as bad or won't affect you at all.
I have a friend that's allergic to certain fruit and myself slightly allergic to strawberries, they make me nauseous.
It is an uncommon allergy though.

I need to sleep more.
I find it hard to believe you could be allergic to fruit that way. It could be a reaction to qa specific vitamin. It's all I can see.
