Sports only involves physical exertion (unless specified ex. motorsports)
Games involve physical or non-physical exertion ( ex. "you gonna watch the game tonight?"
League of legends is not a sport. Its a game. (or e-sport)
Basketball is a sport. it is also a game.
So, yah, Merriam Websters dictionary has all the answers.

Nascar is a motor sport, LoL is an esport and well known things like basketball, soccer and football are contact sports. In Nascar you're moving at high speeds going around an oval so realistically you're sitting in a car, you have a driver and his pit stop crew that take care of the vehicle but the driver himself barely moves, the only thing he moves is his hands on the steering wheel and his eyes on the road. Now a league a legends player also moves his hands except they're on his mouse and keyboard and his eyes are on the screen, they have a coach and a support staff. In sports like basketball they also have a coach and support staff and players but those players are actually moving and making contact which one another.
Lets go over this again. Nascar = Motor Sport, LoL = Esport, Basketball = Contact Sport. Now what do all those things have in common? The word sport. No one here is saying that League of legends is like Basketball or Nascar is like Football but they all fall under the sport category in their own right so I don't understand why people get so butt hurt when things like LoL is called a sport. Also for some reason some of you seem to believe that casually playing league of legends at your house is playing a sport which is wrong, you're playing an esport if you're playing it at a professional level meaning it's broadcasted and played in front of thousands/millions of people at a venue. Saying you're playing a sport when you're at home in solo que on league of legends is like playing basketball at a gym and saying it's NBA level or driving over the speed limit in your car and calling it Nascar.
