experiences with donating blood

All right, so my school is having a blood drive hosted by Stanford University sometime next month, and I am now eligible to donate blood (age 16, at least 110 pounds, decent health, no tattoos/piercings). I know donating blood is a really good thing to do for other people that are in need and I really want to. The only thing I'm slightly afraid of is the large needle going into my vein.

So to anyone that has donated blood before, how was it? Did it hurt a lot? Is anyone here going to donate blood? Share your experiences.

Giving blood isnt bad. I recommend eating something sugary before and after. The first time i gave blood, after i was done i decided to freak out everyone by doing cartwheels and running around after they took out the needle. But the second time i gave blood i walked over to my friend who was about to finish and i passed out in front of him.

Sometimes the nurse will twist the needle, thats not too fun, but grit your teeth and its done. I dont regret it. Girls checking on you if your ok or not . Oh and if its your first time, i dont recommend doing doubles...

Whoever says the blood tests are painful are babies, that doesnt hurt at all.

the blood test in the beginning is more painful than the needle used to take out blood.
If you dont mind a feeling of heat then you should be fine. It wont feel like a burning needle sitting on your elbow, but it will feel warm.
Just make sure you have a good nurse, my first nurse was fine, she didnt wiggle the needle, but my second nurse wiggled too much and gave me a bruise.

eat and drink before going and if they have food there eat those too. stay hydrated, very important.

unfortunately i cant donate blood anytime soon because i took antibiotics, and they dont allow that.

Believe me, the tiny prick that they do to test your blood hurts a lot worse than the actual needle that takes the blood.

Once its in it doesn't even hurt.

I had a vampire one time suck my blood. Afterwords, I slew it and donated its blood to the bloodbank. As a result, the patients who received the vampire's blood turned into one themselves. I now parade around town hunting them down and tickling them to death.

Overall, the blood donation experience was very rewarding and I know I made a difference in peoples' lives.

I've never given blood but when I was little I has a blood test. Look away and don't flex or move.
