Speedpaint video for the drawing I did of my Kaiser.
During one recording, I was on a school Mac and could only use Quicktime, and I had to convert to a format that could be used in a video editing program... which ended up looking like crap, so there's about 15 seconds of super-low quality recording in there that I didn't want to just leave out.

It was a bit under five hours total.

Sorry, I get into the habit of thinking everyone on Basil is around my stage in life and assume artists on Basil are all just trying to improve overall.
I guess I gained this mindset from having been considerably aided by the Basil community before, in getting critiques and suggestions on my works, and so desired to contribute to other artists on Basil in further augmenting their skill. I also haven't seen many of your works (or anyone's since I've been fairly busy) and I guess my interpretation of your dominant style was defined just by what I've seen, your anime-styled characters.
Anyhow,...well, if I offended you, I'm sorry *bow.* :I
Well, like, of course I want to improve overall and whatnot. I'm working professionally but at the same time attending art college. Even if I wasn't still in school, I'm pretty sure I'd cease to be an artist if I ever thought, "Man, I am just really good, I don't need to work on improving ever again." My response probably came out cold and bothered because I've been going through this time where people get on to me for my drawing styles with ignorance to what else I do. The subject of style, I believe, is a moot one. Any half-decent artist will be capable of bending their style, since any half-decent artist could only get to where they are through having a good hand on the artistic fundamentals. Styles evolve and styles change depending on the subject at hand. Skill and understanding won't change, though. They only grow.
See, there's a time and a place for different styles. When drawing something for a site that generally doesn't appreciate artwork anyway (like Basil), and when it does embrace it, it usually wants stylized and "cute" stuff, that's what I'd do. I've worked for card game companies and done concept art for animation and games, and I draw in many, many different styles. Most of the work I can't or just don't upload. My anime-styled characters are actually far and few between more realistic styles. In fact, when it comes to my own comic, I think Tori (this character) is the only one who is drawn in such a style. Everyone else leans more towards realistic rendering.

Really love your works and your colors/values in them, but I'd really like to see you draw something more realistic/definitive for a change. :I
I'm not saying your style is bad or anything, just trying to warn you that there's a real danger in getting into the habit of only drawing anime-characters (if you're planning on pursuing art).
Anyhow, great work!

It's part of her character design. It's a stylistic thing, a cartooned cowlick. She's based off of a character from my comic I'm making.
As for "painting for real," as much as I'd love to, I don't have the money for real paints, nor do I have the visual capability (I'm colorblind). I'd need someone to keep track of the colors I'm using, someone I can trust, because it's totally happened before where people tell me I'm using a different color just to screw with me. I've done traditional colored work, though, but only with Copics since they say the color on the markers, and the medium is contained within its vessel at all times (unlike paint).
Either way, I do feel that the same skillset goes into both, and simply the understanding of composition, form and lighting are what's needed to work in any medium. If not for my visual handicap, I'd certainly dive into traditional mediums, especially oil paints.
i've always thought it'd be interesting to see a painting like that made by you, as you said you know the shades and lightings,so it'd be interesting to see a painting with the correct "measures" so to call them, but "wrong colors"
mm great selection of music this is one of the ones played in Clannad i beleive its called Shining in the sky.
I feel sad after listening to this.
Wow. Incredible. I dropped out of Art after my first hour LOL. I need to retake it >.<
I don't like the hair in the middle of her head sticking up for no reason. Otherwise, it's pretty great. Now go paint it for real.
