I'm in china mainland and I can't play even if you had MS installed what i tried and worked was using AOL dialer, but it lags like hell although it is a good way to log on the game and talk to your friends. Im pretty sure theres a threat about that, cuz i followed that guide, just google it

how does a proxy work?

Using a proxy will get your account deactivated and you'll need to reactivate it via email.

I've heard it works if it's already installed, not sure though. (Never tried that)
If not try googling a network proxy.
