Make Ms pay to play?

I think Nexon would make more money off of making the game pay to play and make some of the things in the CS accessible in game such as cubes, ect. It would be the solution for the massive amount of mesos floating around in the economy, they would still make a hefty profit, and it would cut back (but not eliminate) hackers. I think it would give them more money to devote to their customer service and I can only imagine over-worked GM's.

Play any PTP game and you'll see how much better it truly is.

After awhile of giving it serrious thought, this would be a good idea.

This is a good solution, but unfortunately, it's not something they're likely to do.

No. I'd quite if they did this.

If a company wants to make a game P2P, they need to do it at the start.
Not after having it going for six years.

I do agree that in some aspects making it P2P would drastically improve the community, as well as the economy and the game-play, but like others have said, many people who are too young to attain a job, or even older that can't find a job, play this game and are limited on money as it is without getting NX. I, myself, am 17 and have a job, and make roughly 400-500 a paycheck, and I don't see why others around my age wouldn't be able to as well, but I'm sure they have reasons.

Many people just wouldn't be able to play and in the long run, it'd turn MapleStory for the worse. Less players, less profit for Nexon, they'd care less about the game, etc, etc.

Not going to happen.

For those of you wondering how it would improve the economy, the community and gameplay:

Simple - hackers target free games generally. Why? They don't need to pay to access it and they don't risk losing money by being banned.
There will always be spam however from currency vendors, they make enough profit to have a few accounts going, but hackers typically don't.

So then. ^ this was wrong, assuming you were talking about paying real money.

No, I doubt this will work. I'm one of those people who play a "free" game ONLY and I'm sure there are tons of people who play the game only for free just to find out later that they can't stop themselves from buying NX... I remember how I told myself I will never spend a cent on this game but ended up spending $200 so far.

@MistFTW : well i mean, you could merch your way to decent damage

All of you say that now, but I guarantee at least half of you would find money to pay for at least a month or two to see if its worth it.

PTP games make less money and have less members then F2P games. I dare you to reference WOW to try to prove me wrong.

@iceychill2: That's why I said "semi". It's not a full P2P game, but if you want decent damage, you will need to pay.

Most families decline the idea of spending money for/on a game, so many of the players will dissapear.
^Basically this.
I'd quit.

I don't understand.. In no way do we need to pay to play Maplestory.

idk if making a game "p2p" will simply "fix" all the stability issues and hacks going on.....

I wouldn't want to pay to play. I don't spend money on NX each month but when I do spend I tend to buy over 50k at one time. I don't always have the money to pay every single month and I don't like the idea of paying for a few months in advance. What if I get hacked? What if I decide to quit? I'm an unemployed full time college student. And a lot of my friends don't spend any money on this game at all so... Yeah.

target age group for this game is 9-13. they have no steady income, and probably wouldn't be able to convince their parents to pay a steady, monthly subscription. Nx cards are much more logical, since preteens are likely to acquire money in bursts (eg. bday gifts).

if you added a few touches, perhaps like most companies do: offer a free trial for about a month? then players can have a month to try it out and then c if they want to play it. however, hackers will still find loopholes like: hacking ppl, then trading it onto a new account. so i don't think this plan would work. many people would quit maplestory as well, so nexon won't get much more business then it already is.

OP, have you considered all the games that have converted FROM a subscription-based model to a F2P model to actually *increase* their revenue?

i doubt anyone is going to play that, it looks terrible, but im being extremely biased to judge from one SS
I'm 20 years old, and it isn't hard to come up with $15 bucks a month. If you can't afford that, you need to get your priorities straight before considering playing an online game. Have you ever played WoW? If so, you surely must have realized that their community and economy are much better off than ours. I play both games (or at least used to) because they both offer different elements, but I think a P2P game is a better game. -Shrugs-
Before I continue on, I want to make it very clear that this is in no way an attack. I just want to make it clear that not all online games need to be P2P. Look at WoW, they have a free trial up until some level (I don't know too much information about it as I don't play the game). But, many games are on the road to becoming P2P. Of course, $15 may not be hard to come up with when you're 20 years old. Not every online game is P2P. That aspect alone is one of the most attracting qualities of this game. Some people play online games just BECAUSE they are free, and are all around enjoyable.
lol..no? honestly, i think more than half the players would quit the game if they make it so we have to pay.
You would be shocked at the amount of people who would stay. If they can afford royal hair coupons or cubes for their gear, they can sure as hell pay for a monthly subscription. If anything, it would cut back on the people who do nothing by try and destroy this game rather than actually have fun on it.

This isnt WoW. This is Maplestory.

Every other P2P game is much better off than Maple. This game is pretty much already P2P because of how much NX is required to have decent damage. I honestly think it would because P2P games don't have nearly as many hackers or spammers in them. Also, I would pay to be able to ignore smega's for 90 days. Swear to God.
Let's go ahead and say that Maplestory is a semi P2P game shall we? If we make the game into a full P2P game, yes, that will mean some players will quit because of the monthly fee. But do keep in mind that Nexon's mind is pretty much just about money. If we feed them even more money, it would make them just even happier than they are now. If from now on nobody else buys NX, it won't improve the game stability. However, I don't think if we buy more NX then it will improve supervision Nexon has over this game.
It should solve some of the current problems but Nexon honestly does seem to lack the will to bring service to their customers. Making the game pay to play would mean they would be left with very little room to make mistakes. Not a wise move for Nexon.
I think Nexon would honestly profit more if they got their act together with their customer service. I would be much more willing to spend money on this game if I knew I was going to be treated a little better.
