Technology Ruined My Family Bond amp Possibly More
Hello Basil, I'm just upset and this is not the kind of family I had 10 years ago. I have to get over it but I just miss the old days with no technology.
I have experienced this unfamiliar bond on two separate occasions.
The first time I have noticed it was thanksgiving. My moms annual thanksgiving feast. Like every year she invites
the whole family, cousins, neices, nephews, uncles,aunties.etc. I couldn't be there, but my mom told me how the dinner went down.
My mom told me that they were all using their phones and little or no communication at all. Kinda sad, she told me how fun it was
when she was like 15, no phones. no social media.
Then my experience today, again we go out to eat with the whole family, It was like 20 of us, same people from thanksgiving dinner.
While we were waiting for the food, all the people around me were on instagram. Very little communication. Little neices were playing
Kim Kardashian games. It was just absolutely sad. It was never like this when I was 15. This is why I deleted my facebook, instagram
and I turn off my phone when I have occasions like this.

Your family sounds awesome

It's not really that rude. If I'm with someone or something and we're both quiet, i'll go on my phone and check the time or notifications or something, but if someone attempts to talk to me, my immediate attention goes to them and I put my phone away immediately. Maybe you should have started asking the kids questions or something to get them engaged "what grade are you in? How is school?"
this isn't technologies fault lol, chances are if they're on their phone it's cause it's boring, there's nothing to do. i doubt you attempted to start a fun conversation, whenever im with my friends, although we're really into instagram and stuff like that, we're ode fun so if we ever go out to eat, we just talk about random funny stuff, & technology can help conversations, you can be like "yo i found this funny af video this other day" and it could start a conversation.
That's y'all fault lmao if you aren't making the event fun (joke telling, interesting discussion, banter, family games, etc) then people are going to pull out their phones in response. Who the hell likes sitting in a dry ass room for an extended period of time doing nothing? ENTICE YOUR AUDIENCE. Keep them entertained! Nobody pulls out phones at my family gatherings because we are constantly laughing or doing something fun. Don't lament and whine about technology when it's really y'all boring asses that keep making ya fam/friends pull out their phone.
Ugh I hate it when people do that. >.<
