Why does it feel like GMS is dead?

So I just re-downloaded MapleStory again after a few years. I stopped playing after Phantom was about to come out I believe. The first place I went to was Ch 1 free market and it was a really depressing sight to say the least. The amount of players there compared to the past was just abysmal. There was 1 bot advertising a gold site and only one legit person looking to sell something. Keep in mind this is in Bera the second most popular (supposedly). This leads to the question of: What the hell happened to MapleStory? Did everyone just suddenly quit or am I missing something?

Also why is there like 30 different classes and it seems like the new classes are always the better ones compared to the explorer classes.

@genostigma: Reboot will die soon or just turn into the ultimate bot fest server. Almost everyone just bots hardcore there. Key word almost. I am sure there some legit high lvl, high range, no life grinders there but not everyone. Majority of them bot thanks to Nexon letting GS work it's magic again.

Simple answer: Reboot happened and reduced every server in half. Good way to kill a game!

@penpoint: that's why people are saying maple is dying and not dead. read that word dying. you noob.

Every year i see the same old threads 'maple is dying'.

It was dying when HT came out
It was dying when Pink bean came out
It was dying post BB
It was dying after level cap raised
after 2x exp came out
after cubes came out

Yet here we are. It probably did decline over the years in popularity but it is far from "dead"

Scania, Bera, Windia, Broa. Long ago the four servers lived together in harmony, but then everything changed when the Reboot nation attacked.

i mean, fm 1 lobby isn't really a good litmus test because spamming 'sell gfa 60 @@@@ @@@@ @@@@' isn't really an effective way of selling stuff anymore. obviously there are less players: the game is nearly ten years old and it's no longer in a semi-monopoly over f2p or even Korean f2p MMOs anymore.

I played on kradia. had pretty much everything down but max damage and killing a few bosses. I was up to 1.3-1.5m damage range on the good days but I switched to reboot and have absolutely zero regrets. So much fun and so many people.

I think owls killed the fm lobby area. People can search for their specific items from any channel, and teleport right to a shop of interest. So there no much less going in and looking room to room, and people trying to sell stuff in the lobby died out with the decrease in traffic.
