Mage

Shield or Secondary Weapon

For mages that can equip both shields and secondary weapons, which one is better and why?

One of the ones related to Krexel in Ulu City. I haven't done it myself so I'm not sure which one exactly.

Not sure if that was a typo, but Fearless Prelude has 8 slots.

Watch ur wording, u can equip a shield OR a secondary weapon but NOT BOTH AT THE SAME TIME.

OT: the best secondary weapon gives 10 int and 5 matt with no slots. Both demios sage shield and timeless prelude gives 10 int with 7 slots, fearless prelude gives 10 int 5 luck 7 slots and both timeless and fearless can level up giving u potentially larger amounts of int and luck. Their slots can be scrolled or chaosed for magic attack.

Summary: A shield is better simply because u can scroll it for magic attack. Though a secondary weapon is good for the unfunded.

@lilnarutoboy: correct but u can use a scroll for armor for attack (from events) then chaos.
Shields are reportedly harder to get proper weapon potentials on, though. I'm not sure how accurate this information is.
I'm actually not entirely sure about this anymore. I used 4 packs of Black Cubes on my shield yesterday and there were several nice combinations of lines.

On top of having slots, Shields are shared by almost all Magician classes (go away, Luminous and Kanna).

Shields. You can scroll it, give it potential, nebs, etc...

Shield and Secondaries can receive the same Potential and Nebulites, so Shields are generally better since they have slots. Be sure to get a shield that's over level 100 though, otherwise you won't be able to get the 35%/40% Boss/Ignore lines.

A shield is better if you can afford to scroll it. If you cannot afford to do so, just get a secondary and potential it for whatever potential you want (most people cube for %Boss/Ignore or %Magic Attack).

@Sykiqq Both shields and secondaries can use nebs.

If you can get a shield with a good amount of MAtt, then the shield will be better.
Realistically you should be able to get 10~18 MAtt on a shield using 60%s

Mages have the benefit of shields not hindering their Att multiplier, unlike Paladins/Heroes who are generally better off going 2H.
