Help, my throat hurts

Well recently I've been a little tired and such. I woke up last morning to find my throat hurting a lot... the first thing that crossed my mind was, "Oh crap, I'm getting sick". I decided to ignore it throughout the whole day and I guess it didn't really hurt too much. When I woke up today, I found that it hurt even more AND I had a stuffed nose... is there anything I could do to ease the pain off a little? WAS there something I could have done to prevent this from happening? :< Thanks for your help...

Edit: I drank a lot of Macha Tea. Helped a little... Lol
Edit 2: THANK YOU everyone for your insightful knowledge! Some of this stuff is working nicely!

Go to the doctor, get some antibiotics. Sore throats are typically caused by bacteria, so it should help at least treat the throat. Or any complications with a viral infection. (Or, just go to the doctor, they probably know what's going on with you, instead of asking basil).

I am no expert at this, but I will glady offer some advice.

For me, gurgling some salt water helps soothe the pain in my throat if it's painfully dry.
And my mom usually boils from coca-cola with some ginger for me to drink to clear my sinus if I have a stuffy nose. (doesn't work sometimes though :< )
I am assuming you don't have a dehumidifier available but you probably turn on the heating when you go to sleep. I usually put a cup of cold water in my room before I go to sleep so some of it evaporates and the air won't be as dry. You might want to keep some water next to you anyway to drink when you wake up thirsty.

But it seems like you might be a little sick. Remember to drink plenty of water and I hope you get better soon!

Well, if you have a cold, you'll take a while to get better since it's a virus (influenza).
Which means you must've had a fever, but I doubt that.
But what I do for an achey throat is gargle hot salt water. it's weird, but it soothes it a bit.
Drink anything hot as well.

Probably you just have a sore throat. Usually when you have a sore throat, you have a runny or clogged nose.

How I know this? My brother's always sick.
You said you had a stuffed nose after you woke up though, plus you said feeling tired and achey
Yeah I know, I forgot to mention it was stuffed like a couple of hours before I went to bed. I honestly didn't say that to sound a little more dramatic lol.

Get some water, and put salt in it. Mix the salt with the water so it's like salt water. Gargle the salt water every hour. It really helps
yes, because basilmarket is full of doctors with PhDs. we know everything
Really? I didn't know you needed a PhD to know how to help someone out with a common cold.
And thank you Angel (post above).

Well I work for the NHS and to me you just have a cold. Blocked nose, feeling tired, and sore throat are symptoms of that. And no, not really anything you could have done
best advice would just be to drink some lemsip or strepsils or something

Yeah seriously... I'm asking if anyone knows even a little about this. The Internet is sometimes such a waste of time @__@
