how to drink a flaming cocktail

this might be a really dumb question, but I was in china this past week and we were at ktv. I've avoided flaming cocktails since they looked scary, but this time my friend ordered each of us a shot of b51s. I freaked out and spit it out immediately, probably (definitely) grossing everyone out.

how the heck do you drink those things? o.0

If you drink it while it is still on fire then you need to do it quickly. Using a straw or blowing the fire out is usually safer if you have no experience. It is possible to drink it without a straw but it tends to be more dangerous as you may set yourself on fire. If you do drink it without a straw then quickly take the entire shot at once and then close your mouth to put the fire out. Alcohol burns at a low temperature so contact with skin for 1-2 seconds should be fine.

Okay, it might be stupid but would it be possible to suck in bits of the fire and burn yourself? DX a bartender friend told me if I didn't drink fast enough it'll get really hot- is this true?

Drink it. Then you can breath fire like a dragon.

If you drink it fast enough the straw won't melt, if you don't think you can't drink it fast enough you could just blow the fire out and then take the shot. The point of setting it on fire is to enhance the flavor; what happens is that the fire will lower the alcohol level and thus making the flavor more prominent. It also warms the drink and looks aesthetically pleasing.
