This crap is just like stupid strawmans Christians make about atheists. And just as pathetic.

You're completely out of touch if you think it's just a strawman. Of course the extremity is exaggerated for comedic purposes. I live in Israel which may not be a Christian country. However, it's filled up with religious nuts who act like this, the moment someone does anything that opposes their beliefs.
Also if you're truly religious and believe with no doubt, you shouldn't even respect other's people's beliefs (unless they're the same). Think about it like that: What sane person that genuinely believes that there's an all knowing all powerful being, that has the power to torture you forever, will respect non-believers? So the response although obviously exaggerated is actually fairly accurate.

I don't think I got a response that extreme when I tell people I'm an atheist.

I'd consider yours a common, edgy, "TAKE THAT MOM 'N DAD" atheist response. People might take you more seriously when you stop treating your faith like a sports team.

I wouldn't call that the common religious response. I would call that "The common extremist religious youtube commenter response". Don't go mixing people that are pretty much ok with the assholes.
