Free Market
When I first started Maple, I thought the Free Market was a place where people can get free stuff. Who knew it meant that Maplers can sell you items that they monopolize :c

You mean when people refer to the FM? That's because a name of an object, place, or thing doesn't always represent the words' meaning. It's like calling Wall but actually referring to something other than a brick wall or whatever.
The Free Market in Maplestory is a somewhat accurate representation of what a free market is. It doesn't have Nexon interfering and setting price floors/ceilings - aside from the system limitation of 10b as cap mesos - and this defines it as a free market on loose terms.
For example, Nexon isn't making it a restriction that players can or cannot price their Red Potions for 10b. While yes there's a stupid unnecessary maple tax, it still represents a realistic free market to an extent.
Free market ~ Free enterprise
@AshleyAttacked: It's where they get it from though

Lol, I've always wondered why they call it that. I'm guessing it's some form of unintentional Engrish.
I'm not cynical about it though, there's no feasible manner in which people would just universally earn everything and provide it to others as a klind of public service. Tho I think the tots quests up to level 60 accomplish what you were looking for.
Lol when i first saw the FM in perion i had no clue what it was. There were 22 portals, but no items in any one them
Lol yeah I remember going into the fm and wondering where all the free stuff were.
Not as smart as @wall when I was in elementary school
