Gene Wang of the Washington Post reported that the game against the Bayi Rockets in Beijing turned violent with just under 10 minutes remaining in the game. Punches and chairs were thrown and spectators pelted Georgetown players with full water bottles.

Wang reported that it was the second time the benches cleared. At the time of the second brawl, the Hoyas had 28 fouls and the Rockets had 11.

The melee apparently was sparked when Bayi forward Hu Ke committed a hard foul on Georgetown's Jason Clark. Clark took exception and shoved Hu.

"Tonight two great teams played a very competitive game that unfortunately ended after heated exchanges with both teams," Thompson said in a statement. "We sincerely regret that this situation occurred."
