Why is 2x such a big deal?

I don't get why people make such a big deal out of 2x events, you could always just play twice as long. Same desired effect!

It's not even that great. The game lags like crazy. The botters earn twice the mesos and spell traces.
It encourages people to be up at midnight playing MapleStory when they should be getting wasted...

Edit :
There seems to be some confusion. And a lot of people thinking "Well it's twice as efficient" or something like that

People sit around for more than the duration of 2x waiting for 2x, if you just do whatever you were going to do during 2x in that time frame then you'd have no need for 2x! Like when I would wait 8 hours for 2x to grind a link skill mule for 2 hours but I was on maple the entire time.

Or when some people train only during 2x but their job lets them kill effortlessly so they could've trained the entire time it wasn't 2x as well so they could be off during 2x hours.

2nd Edit:

2x Exp only. I'm ok with people caring about 2x drop.

This is a game, you should have fun training, if you don't, why are you playing?

Because I want to level up shade to 150 and don't want to spend longer than I need to, because it's getting painful to play now, but I want the ring. And afterward, I'll never touch this thing ever again like ever.

Why spend like 8 hours on something painful when I could be done and over with it in possibly 4 hours or less than 4 and finally leave this class once and for all?
the point of 2x is that you don't need to play twice as long. Not everyone has the luxury to do so, or more importantly, would want to.
Then again, Why are people who have jobs getting so excited about an event that only happens at about midnight for them?
The last thing i'd want to do is come into work completely sleep deprived on monday and even if you do work at about those times, You're at work anyway!

Would much rather play Maple than get wasted. I'm up anyway and I don't have any troubles with lag during the night (or early morning technically) 2x time so I don't see why I wouldn't play.
Even though it's slower, I prefer training at DIPQ rather than SDH and getting 7% per run on 2x is much more desirable than 3.5%. Since there's a 10 limit run, I'd be missing out on about 35% total if I didn't go on 2x. I have way too many characters and it's nice to go on those during 2x to see if I find them fun enough to train them more when it's regular experience.
Except it tricks you into playing for 4 hours and buying a card :]
You don't need to buy a card.

I just leveled from 70-120 in just about 2-3 hours and got my xenon link skill. Normally this could take much, much longer.
This thread itself explains how you simply don't understand the importance of time.

Time is money. Time is everything. Time is life.
That's what I just said... There's tons of time around 2x that you can spend doing whatever it is you wanted to do during 2x...
Sorry, misread.

Still, assume that I want to get to level Y from level X, which would normally take me 4 hours. I also want to spend time with friends today. By taking advantage of double experience, I am able to head out with my friends at 2pm as opposed to 4pm.

But really, I believe the main reason people play on 2x exp is to stack exp buffs.

Because 2x is never enough.

You bail on your friends to play maplestory? You have got to be kidding me, i thought your whole argument is that 2x is pointless yet you are the one that stays home and waits for it?

For me, 2x is 5pm to 9pm on a Saturday night which is when I usually play so its a coincidence I guess.

Time management and not playing for hours on end is a good thing, ya'know.
Gee I dunno, maybe because some people have to work and don't have the ability to play 8 hours a day like dudestevexx. That way us people with lives can enjoy this game at a casual pace and not let Maple become their job.

Time is of the essence. If you get a Ludi MPE map, and it's 2x, you save more than just twice the amount of time, because who knows when you're going to get that same map again? It literally makes things twice as fast. Also, it stacks with 2x from the Cash Shop, and with the 2x from Monster Purge, so it saves even more time.
What? Does playing twice as long not have the same desired effect?
Why would you want to? This argument makes no sense.
