I don't know, some of the themes of ToT kinda contradict themselves. By looking at the mask, it seems to go happy -> blank -> sad, but technically, Road of Regrets was the sadness and Road to Oblivion should actually be anger. But then when you look at it like that, you regret choices in the past, but Memory Lane is supposed to represent the past. My view on it is that Memory Lane was about the happiness experienced in the past, Road of Regrets was regretting everything that happened which led to this point in time, but since nothing can be one, the masks are neutral, and Oblivion is the sadness and anger about a future of oblivion. It's kinda like the monks were going through stages, first only looking at the happy moments and disregarding the rest, then regretting what they've done and feeling powerless about the situation, and finally sadness and anger at an inevitable and hopeless future.
Edit: I also agree with the above post. There are just some masks that should not come off.
