why would a thief care about str/int?
Because certain thief classes benefit from str. The int is useless except for magic avoid/defense, but since you're buying Tyrant thief gloves I would expect those to be maxed already.
If they're thief/pirate gloves, at least one prime to trigger the str/luk lines would be good. If you're certain you don't care about 120 ish str/luk, then +3 att is basically the same as +10 all stat.
