Hacking Risk

Hey guys, just thought I'd let you know that I got a message in my shop saying I'd been recorded 'doing a scam'. Obviously its fake, and told me to go to some website. Just a heads up for anyone who may take it seriously, don't go to the website. Not sure whether this is just in Bello, or if anyone else in another world has experienced this yet. I'm not sure what the website will do or w/e, just don't go to it, or you could be hacked or key-logged or w/e.
While it's admirable ya're trying to warn us, it's kind of insulting that ya believed at least SOME Basilers would fall for that and needed a warning.
Not everyone knows everything about the kinds of risks and attacks that this kind of scum represents.
They try to make it as believable as possible to trick unaware players into giving away their Maple accounts, and in cases where someone might be tricked like that, a helpful warning that this kind of attack is being seen right now is a welcome gesture.

Consider this: If it didn't work, they wouldn't bother doing it, right..?
Can someone please explain how just "entering a website" can give you a keylogger/virus/etc?
I don't understand how that could happen just by visiting a website o.o
Depending on whether or not your Windows and browser are fully updated, there can be "exploits" that allow active scripts on a website to "silently" infect your computer when you visit a website. There are programs you can get to block that kind of thing (I use "Spyware Blaster", a free program that's easy to use that blocks known bad sites, and there are add-ons for browsers like "NoScript" that will block scripts from running without your knowledge.)

In the case of the two attacks being used by slimeballs in Maplestory at the moment, one is a "phishing site" that looks exactly like a Nexon login page and wants you to enter your login info to get a NX "prize" (and of course when you enter your password it goes directly to the slimeball who then steals your account with it), and the other one tells you that you need to "update your java" before you can see a "video of you scamming someone" (and of course when you click "update" it downloads a keylogger into your computer.)

The only real defense against this kind of sleaze is to realize Nexon NEVER gives away NX like that, and if you KNOW you're not a scammer, then whoever is telling you that there's a video is just lying trying to trick you into giving them your account.

These things are ALWAYS fake.

If there is indeed a video on that site (just not a video of him scamming obviously), watching it makes information circulate between your comp and the server the video is based (I think...) I guess it wouldn't be hard to include some kind of trojan horse in those files and boom... virus.

That's just as believable as those emails titled "you just won a free Ipod". Only idiots or the uninformed would fall for it. But you did a good deed by warning people.

Only a Youtube video would be appropriate to post if somebody wants to prove that they're a scammer.
