It is indeed classified as a developmental disorder...
It's hard to say what factors cause it though.
I don't think it's really even been recognized until recent years.
All sorts of anxieties and phobias and "stuck" behaviors can arise due to environmental factors at any age, though...
But so too can they be overcome.

There are probably environmental factors
