Easy math questionbut I forgot how to do thistoo old.

So we had this bonus question on our AP Calc test today at school. The teacher had hinted at us that it was a "blast from our past," I guess it was a very effective blast since I could not remember it at all. I now want to know how to actually proceed at solving it..

The question is:

If the sum of two consecutive integers is -1, what is the value of the smaller integer?

It's just algebra. You represent two consecutive integers as x and x+1. So you have x+(x+1)=-1
