The fact that people are arguing over pixels does make everything look more pathetic but if you think about it, there are people behind those pixels. Meaning it's just a regular argument except they are interacting with virtual characters instead of face to face. But of course this depends on the maturity of the actual argument..if it's about 2 little girls fighting over a maplestory boyfriend, then that is pathetic. If an argument is actually about something important, then I'd take it more seriously.
Edit: I guess the guy who commented before me summed it all up!
The short answer would be that:
People are people even if it's over some mmo pixels, and the immaturity is going to exist regardless of whether it's in real life or online.

Because it exists in real life. People like drama, it keeps excitement in their lives. If everyone was friends with everyone, things would be boring.
why do people make drama over pixels
Because they are anonymous as far as real life identities. Someone calls you ugly or w/e, they arent gonna be knocking at your door the next day to beat you up.
why do people care what others do in a video game
Why do people care what others do in real life? Because it has some effect on our enjoyment of the activity. Someone just cut you off, wow, that was rude. Someone just ks'd you, wow that was rude.

Ya, people over the internet have no reason to lie to you. Guess what, if your being a jerk, they are gonna call it as they see it, no sugar coating so they dont have to see you upset or w/e
why do people care
Its human nature to care about things of importance to you. I spent alot of time, money, and effort on my characters, so I take pride in them and care about them.

cause this is a forum, not an english class. if you can get the point across by cutting letters out, do it.
why didnt public school prepare me for these questions
because public school is meant to give you the core skills required to complete general aspects in the basic workplace. All these questions are based off of opinions that really can only be answered the best by someone with experience working with other people. Understanding people isnt something that can be taught in class, its something that is comprised of your own experiences, and watching other peoples reactions to things
