Understanding Potentials for Mages

Hi Everyone, I was just wondering what the difference between certain lines on potential are for mages.

1. What is the comparison between % dmg and %magic attack/attack
2. Is %attack helpful to mages? B.c i see a %magic att AND %att on lines and i assume there is a difference namely For Mages, not for mages.

Starglazing
Oh i see. Thanks for the explanation!

On a related note, does that mean it is best to cube your weapon for %magic attack instead of %boss. I guess it may be more detailed than my bland simplification^
not necessarily. aiming for 250% boss and generalizing that for each class as a minimum requirement is rather silly

mages do need a bit more % boss than the others considering that they have little % td +%boss gains but just aim for 2 lines of %boss/% magic and work on something else

aiming for 3 good lines on weapon bpot/2 specific weapon lines would hurt you at the end unless you know what ur doing (aiming for 3 lines is like asking for 30% stats on armor)

example..say u get 40% boss + 9% magic on a weapon pot line..that's fine

not the best but its better to get something here and there other than perfecting/aiming for one set of lines, would yield diminishing returns in terms of cost efficiency

My own opinion is to meet a minimum requirement of %boss (250) and %pdr (85, 90 if for cvellum) and everything else go for %matk.

I suggest reading up on this to understand how %boss and %atk/%m.atk relate to one another.

Bottom line, you need both %boss and %m.atk. Since they multiply with one another- stacking up on one and neglecting the other is a poor choice.
@archM0nL By that logic is %magic attack also bad?
in contrast, % matk is the best line imo, because usually, you only have 40~60% matk unless you are super rich

read the formula above u can understand

Total damage is just junk lines, because you are gonna have 250+% boss in comparison 12%ish total damage is pathetic.

@Infinitums: Sorry, I had this kinda wrong in my first post. Generally, they're about the same. Reason is that they essentially both multiply the total range:

simply:
(abilities) * (magic attack) * (%matk) = damage * (%total + %boss)

so:
(abilities) * (magic attack) * (%matk) * (%total + %boss) = damage (after %total + %boss)

you can switch around the the variables since after all the calculations are made, you still get the same number. Now, it's a matter of your personal abilities and m.atk ratios.

Your stat window won't tell you how much %m.atk or %total damage you'll have, but they will be reflected in your magic damage range.

It's late here though and I'm tired, so don't trust me 100%

@sungoon Does this mean %total damage is better than %magic attack? Additionally, does % total damage show up on your range stat window?

1) %M.Atk multiplies one part of the magic damage range, whereas %total damage multiplies the total range
magic damage formula

2) %Atk (should be renamed w.atk or something) is not helpful to mages, since weapon attack is not part of the magic damage range.

Hope that helps
