Wands or Staves on a F/p mage
so im funding a f/p mage and im wondering which is better, according to pre-red threads staves have higher magic attack while wands give greater cast speed for explosion, is this still true? or has red changed up some things?

What equip piece gets speed infusion?
So MapleStory's attack speed system is represented in terms of a single byte with the lower the better. The weird thing is despite staves being "slow" and wands being "normal" the default mage attack speed is 6 (for comparison, other jobs have speeds of 4 or 5). When booster is used, it "doubles" the attack speed. What this really means is it subtracts 2 from the speed. So when you attack with booster, you get a value of 4. Now when you use decent speed infusion, you can get this down to a 3 and when you use a Green Potion, you can get this down to a 2. The fastest attack speed possible is a 0 and I have achieved this by having either:
1. Get the REAL speed infusion and have a battle mage in your party with yellow aura
or
2. Use a swiftness rune
So in terms of which is better, staves are better because they have higher damage yet the same attack speed. In addition, you have to be careful what skill you are using. For example, Paralyze last time I checked has a speed of 800 ms while Chain Lightning has a speed of 780 ms. This means that Chain Lightning will attack ever so slightly faster than Paralyze when you cast it.

There is no reason for it, that's just the way it is... Evans, Bishops, I/Ls, and F/Ps use casting speed instead of relying on what speed the weapon is like every other class does. Things like Green MPE Potions, Speed Infusion, or Advanced Yellow Aura still increase the speed of which we attack at.
Someone else might be better at explaining it. This is the best I can come up with off the top of my head.
Attack speed is irrelevant once you're into 4th job so it really doesn't matter. Pick whatever you can find that works best for your budget.
Attack speed is irrelevant once you're into 4th job so it really doesn't matter. Pick whatever you can find that works best for your budget.
Staffs still got a higher base magic attack, even on the sets with the same level requirement, so I'd suggest you to go for a staff, unless you can get a wand for cheap with nice above average matt.
Explosion is a 3rd job skill and you will probably never touch it once you hit 4th job. The delay difference between attack speeds on weapons is minimal anyway, so don't make that lead your decision.
