How to build funds
Almost every single character i own is unfunded. Is there anything i can do to fund myself (over 1b) without merching? any bosses i could possibly kill? my strongest character is a 174 Kaiser with 55k range buffed, if that helps at all.

Events are too hard to make money unless you have too much time on your hands. Last year I tried to collect enough Maple Leaves to buy enough scrolls to perfectly scroll a claw, and eventually I gave up collecting leaves and just bought 1bil worth.
Events and merching. Bossing isn't effective until later.

Why do people think they can get places without merching? Even if you buy meso or sell nx, you'll have to merch every now and then. You can't not merch. It's not like there's a set amount you have to merch. Just check fm often and find out prices then buy and resell. Heck, you can do voyages for cubic blades. Find out any items of value that you can farm as well.
Take advantage of events!
You can't get anywhere in this game other than merching unless you buy mesos on a website.
