Anime

Favourite Anime?

I know there's probably been like 500 anime threads on here, but I don't go on Basil very often and I have checked and I couldn't find one. ^^

I've watched a ton of anime and I've been watching anime since I was 12. Anyway, sorry for the ramble, but I just wanted to know in your opinion what is your favorite anime and why? Not being rude, but try not to post the big 4 AKA Naruto, Bleach, One Piece, or KHR. (They were all really good animes but I would like to hear some other ones! )

IMO I have a tie between my favorites named Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet and Ouran High School Host Club.

Why OHSHC? I recently just rewatched it, and I really couldn't stop laughing. (Keep in mind it takes a lot to make me laugh). I really wish they'd redo the whole anime. Why do I say this? Well, some of you who have watched anime for awhile might realize that they're actually improving on the quality of the art in anime, for example Hyoka and Tamako Market, (also going to note that I hate mecha, but Valrave is a VERY good mecha anime I actually really dig the design of the machines). I'm not a big fan of the ending, like Magi: The magic of labyrinth, but the whole series was really nice and I am planning on rewatching it after a few years .

Why GotVP? This is a very new anime, (I keep track and stay up-to-date on anime T_T ). I like it because it's very different from other animes....I suppose. It's new and it just shows how humanity would react to...aliens. The protag has a mecha and pretty much where he's from is mainly mecha VS some squid things, but he uses his to help out humanity and to somehow return to his home. He has completely different views and eventually learns how to speak their language and wants to actually help humanity even after they threatened to kill him.

TLDR: So yeah! What is your favorite anime? c:
Attack on titan
Allow me to interject for a moment. What you're referring to as Attack on Titan, is in fact, Attack on Eoten, or as I've recently taken to calling it, The Eoten Onslaught. Attack on Titan is not a proper English phrase by the author, but rather an awful translation by some editor's lackey that has no meaning in the proper English language and was probably translated by Google. The Eoten Onslaught is the proper translation for this manga's title, made useful by the hardworking translators at Commie, Webster's, Oxford and the Queen's Royal Palace. Many weeaboos users read a modified version of the Eoten Onslaught manga every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of the Eoten Onslaught which is widely read today is often called Attack on Titan, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the the Eoten Onslaught, translated by Commie. There really is an Attack on Titan, and these people are reading it, but it is just an awful translation they use. Attack on Titan is Engrish: a Japanese delinquent's attempt of speaking a language he was too stupid to understand while he was in high school. This lackey is an essential part of an manga ecosystem, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete manga published. The lackey is normally used to get coffee or to draw backgrounds for the manga artist: the whole system is basically Attack on Eoten -- a better, but not correct translation -- or the Eoten Onslaught. All the so-called Attack on Titan distributions are really distributions of the Eoten Onslaught

On a side note, will you people please (not inclusive to those quoted above) stop calling 'X' title your "favorite" despite the fact that the series isn't even close to a finale. It's like reading half-way through the second Harry Potter book and claiming it's your favorite series of all time. If it's something like Gintama that has seemingly infinite episodes, fair enough -- you've had 7 years to decide; however, how can a 2-cour adaption (which hasn't even covered the manga's 3rd arc,) that barely scratched the 2/3rds mark be considered a favorite?

Naruto isn't a good anime, it's by far the worst ever created. Also, my favourite is Dragon Ball Z. Why? Because it has an amazing cast of characters, perfect character development, superb animation, epic battles, and some very heart warming moments.

I'd have to say Inuyasha is my favorite. I love the comedy, the romance, and the action in it. (: And the story, it has like many stories packed into it on all the characters. Gah. I'm not very good at explaining why. I just really love that show haha. (:

I watched all the episodes and I was so upset that there weren't any sequels or something. I read Fruits Basket, which I also REALLY liked. There is this anime that I don't really remember the name of..something close to Zombie kore wa desu ka? But omg that anime series is HILARIOUS. I loved the part where whats his name was trying to take care of - ugh i forget her name..the girl wearing armor- when she was sick. I love how pervy he was acting XD!

I know you said try not to mention them, but Naruto is really one of my favorite, if not my favorite of all time. People think because it's one of the big three, it's very shounen and stereotypical, which it is at times, but in my mind, it has truly one of the best stories out there. The original story and theme of Naruto is, I will admit, nothing too amazing. A kid wants to be accepted, never giving up, making friends, all that typical anime stuff. However, once the timeskip happened, specifically with the introduction of Pain, the story of Naruto picked up exponentially.

Introducing Pain's character did two vital things to the series and the story/characters in my opinion. The first was that it began the concept that the antagonist isn't "evil", and the character is fully fleshed out and justified, making it actually possible to see where he's coming from and even be on his side. While this isn't a new concept to anime and manga, this was in Naruto, who had never really justified a villain before this. From then on, Kishimoto took this to a whole other level. Currently standing in the manga, every antagonist so far in the series has been properly explained and justified. No character can be truly called "evil" unless with maybe the exception of Hidan.

The second, and most important, was the introduction of the idea for the "Cycle of Hatred". Since it has been set forth, the cycle of hatred has become a major plot point in the series, how the ninja world they live in has been riddled with violence and hate. People have tried to find ways to counter act this cycle, such as Jiraiya and Minato, but to no avail. Those who actually are taking action against it are ironically the antagonists of the series, Pain and Madara. One of my favorite moments is the conversation with Pain and Naruto, where Pain describes the cycle of hatred to Naruto and how people are driven to seek vengeance under the banner of justice. After an amazing speech, he asks Naruto, "What would you do to stop this cycle of hatred?", to which Naruto responds that he has no answer for such a question. This becomes his new goal and theme in the series, replacing the old theme of gaining the support and respect of the people around him.

Another aspect of why I love this series so much is Sasuke. Despite the show being called Naruto, Sasuke is the main character of the series. Most animes and mangas have their list of the "main" characters, but I don't think I've seen one do it like Naruto has, where it isn't just centralized around one character with his group of friends, but that Sasuke is TRULY a main character, that the series revolves around BOTH of them. Because of this, a lot of attention has been given to Sasuke's character and story, to the point where it has become one of the most complex and real characters I've ever seen. When I look at Sasuke, I don't see a good guy or a bad guy, I just see a human, another person who has gone through a specific situation that shaped him to who he is today. I could go on for so much more about Sasuke's character and his relationship with Naruto, but I think I'll just leave it at this.

So there you go, here are my three main reasons why Naruto is my favorite anime/manga. I have more, but I don't want to make my wall of text any bigger.

my favs are
Clannad/Clannad After Story - because... it taught me a lot about life, and family, and friends, and made me learn to appreciate life more (especially the 2nd time I watched it, the first time I watched the series I mainly watched it for fun, but I guess the 2nd time I was looking for something else...). it is also a beautiful story with wonderful artwork! and it was funny
Steins;Gate - it was confusing for me too altho in some of the later episodes, but after the 4th episode or something, I couldnt stop and watched the rest into the morning. it has some really heartbreaking parts in there (i dont think ive ever cried so hard while watching an anime) and funny parts as well. Its also awesome because it had so many WTF? moments (plot-wise) that just blew my mind.
Code Geass - Lelouch is a boss. lol. this is prob my fav anime cuz I just love everything about it. I cant pick out any one detail as the reason why I like this anime. I just cant. is this true love?...
Ano Hana - one of the most beautiful stories about friendship ive seen (ive watched around 30 animes)...
i also really liked some longer animes like Rurouni Kenshin, Great Teacher Onizuka, and Hunter x Hunter, but this post is already kinda long so i wont get into why

i just finished watching Ouran High School Host Club (ugh such a long name xD) yesterday. i literally couldn't stop laughing either lol. my facial muscles hurt so much after so many of the episodes. and dangit i thought there was a sequel when i was watching it so i was ok with the end but then i found out there wasn't a sequel and i like WTF? D:< GIMME MORE.

and GotVP sounds interesting. i might watch that

lol *end novel*
Rurouni Kenshin, for multiple reasons. 1. Himura Kenshin is an amazing character. He starts off wise and skilled, and only later do viewers get to see how naive, idealistic, and brutal he used to be. He is the epitome of a tragic hero in the realm of fiction, and the person who voiced him was remarkably talented and captured his character perfectly. 2. The Kyoto arc of the TV series and Samurai X: Tsuiokuhen (Trust and Betrayal) have aged well, and are still some of the best the anime world has to offer. 3. The music. Tracks like Warriors Suite, Departure, Warriors Blue from the TV series, and Kotowari and Heart of the Sunrise from the OVAs really make the adaption excel. Also, One Third has been my favorite Japanese song for a long, long time. 4. I'm a sucker for Japanese historical fiction. 5. Saito Hajime is a badass. Etc.
@ #4, me too. I just love the whole Japanese culture and history haha..
(Finally someone who states why )
I only got a glimpse of a few episodes for Kenshin, and honestly no one really talks about it. It sounds really good and I actually might just watch it in my spare time.

Also adding I love good voice actors, like the actor of Gintoki. OST is my favourite too.
