Dont Buy Diamonds
So I saw this on imgur, and every time someone even mentions diamonds I have no choice but to go on a tangent. Diamonds to me are Apple products (other than the ipod) to computer users who know a modicum (lol "cum" of information about computers.

Basically diamonds are all worthless (literally, not even me trash talking them lul), almost all diamonds will originate from a single company, DeBeers, which controls a vast majority of the diamond market. They basically control how many diamonds they want to distribute each year (hur dur supply and demand), and you're usually buying a worthless rock, and even through middlemen like Kay Jewels and Jared and blah blah blah, they're usually marking up their diamonds by over 1000% of what they bought them for (my psych prof's dad was a private jeweler), even when they're "50% off", you're still buying a worthless rock which is then sold to a company for chump change, which you then dish out 5x-10x that amount, for no reason.

You know what makes it even worse? The expectation that men should plunk down 3 months' salary on a diamond engagement ring. Or perhaps that the idea of getting a diamond ring for marriage is so ingrained in western culture, that most girls would be furious not to get one. Lab-grown diamonds are also unacceptable for a lot of folks.

No need to be condescending about nothing, given the context of my post, it seems pretty obvious I've known of their lack of value at least before today so I didn't "[i]just[/i] learn about this". Your reply makes you seem pretentious, and if you mean pointless rocks as in it just sits on your finger, well isn't that obvious? It works even more against you if you're belittling me as if you expected me to not know such an obvious thing, plus the whole point of it is to show off your socioeconomic status (duh). I don't like jewelry, it does nothing good and I don't think it's worth thousands of dollars just to have a shiny rock and metal that does nothing.
You just learned that diamonds are pointless rocks?
they have no real worth except as abrasives. the whole idea of them as romantic or whatnot is just a scam to try to make them profits.
also much of diamond mining is used to fund evil warlords in africa etc
