1). Sleeping earlier is the best solution. Try to sleep between 10-11pm

2). Don't eat anything 3 hours before you sleep. If you go to sleep with food in your stomach, you might not be able to fall asleep because your stomach is working to digest the food. So don't eat anything prior to going to sleep.

3). When you lay down in bed and attempt to sleep, empty your mind. If you have any problems or worries in your life, don't think about them at all and completely empty your mind. Alternatively, you can think of something happy. Sleeping while your mind is full of stress and worries will prevent you from falling asleep and you might end up staring at the ceiling for hours before you actually drift off to sleep.
i will try that.

thanks VoidWreck.

for the past two semesters i've had really long days (i would wake up at 6am, not get home till 7 or 8pm then I had to do homework so i was sleeping by like 10 or 11) and that pretty much solidly fixed my sleep schedule. Before that i had the go-to-sleep-at-2am-and-wake-up-whenever kind of routine, and i didn't mind it but being forced to sleep at a normal hour helped add some consistency to my life. So yeah, just have really tiresome days, wear yourself out, and you should rest easy at night
go to bed earlier
it's the most obvious and also the most ignored solution to most people's sleeping problems, provided they are relatively healthy and don't suffer from actual sleeping disorders.

can't fall asleep at an earlier time because you're used to staying up all night? Go work out in the day. No, not a light 10 minute jog, you need exercise that physically exhausts you (to a healthy degree) so that your body wants the night-time rest to recover.
gotta get on that maplestory grind tho. can't go to bed early!
