How many even play this game anymore?

Hi, returning player here; haven't played seriously in years. I remember long ago that no matter where you went, there used to be people all over the place in just about any server. But now, I find that I'm playing on my Demon Slayer on Broa and I'm lucky if I can find even a few people on Channel 1. I understand that the majority of players are probably in the Free Market or in Henesys, and in other servers like Scania, but it's kinda weird to see the game like this. I also remember people would always spam megaphones in chat, but not so much anymore (not that that's a bad thing, of course, given the kinds of things that used to be spammed).

So is this game really dying, or am I just in the wrong server?
Just cause people aren't on doesn't mean the game is dead. Use some common sense (if you got any) to figure out people got school exams, work, different time zones, etc. smh
Or maybe you should take your insulting ignorant statement elsewhere. The game is dying its BEEN dying at a steady rate a year ago no matter the month or week fms on bello reached up to fm7 completely full now unless you find an fm4 spot youre considered in the "dead zone" as fm5+ is empty. All of you telling yourself is because of exams are deluding yourself, the major problem isent how maplestory can improve to make older players come back but how it can improve to make newer players stay. The pay to win mechanic is killing them slowly they either let the game die with it or completely get rid of it no new player wants to get told he will be doing 100x less dmg than another player simply because he lacks real life money its the biggest turn off in an mmo. Instead they should focus on noob friendly equipment and dungeons (gollux and commerci are great) that pay off well without having to spend buckets to profit from it. They should stop making classes and instead release new 201+ areas+dungeons to train at to bring back old players and give them an actual achievable lvl 250 goal that does not take max dmg and 6 months of constant grinding, and finally they should release 5th job to keep the older 200+ players happy and satisfied as they level past 200 to gain those skills.

People keep making excuses as to why the Maplestory population is so low sometimes, but enough is enough.

Maplestory is a literal husk of what it used to be, the game went from an extreme grind but fun to fast leveling to 120 and no fun whatsoever. Hopefully Nexon learned from the experience and rectify this mistake if they ever hope for Maplestory 2 to be successful, as this isn't the golden days of cash shop pay 2 win items anymore.

If a game is not appealing, and has nothing going for it but heavy reliance on cash shop mechanics to keep itself afloat, players now a days have no reason to stick around as games are a dime a dozen in today's society.

This is literally the most inactive time of Maplestory in the whole year. It's a cycle that continues to happen.

Well damn, though I did honestly kind of expect this when I came back. I guess you guys are right in that maybe the player count will go up once summer rolls around and exams are no longer a factor, though even then it doesn't seem like it'll go up back to the level it used to be.

there has never been smega huge activity.

you maybe saw that during tot's know-how release and the free 2 smegas, now, people realize that merching in fm entrance is pointless and stupid, with the last events with upots, maple points, etc. it gets easier to have some mesos, you can now buy a shop permit from any nx seller in ur world and put your crap in all the rooms.

Maple is dead right now practically in every server, come back in May when Maple is hosting their 9th Anniversary.

Americans have finals now.

But yeah, the game sadly isn't as popular as it once was. I still have hope for this game, but changes need to be made before the player base is completely gone.
