Is it safe to give your ID amp Sin number to an employer?

So, I'm looking for a part-time job in the summer currently and I saw a company posted an ad looking for workers. Just call or email them if you're interested. I call them and a women picked up and said I need to go on their website and register that made me input the following information (personal details, past employer, etc). Afterwards she told me email the company address my photo ID and my sin number. From my understanding, you only give these pieces of information once you actually get hired for a job. This company I've never heard of and from I can tell from looking through their website is they are some sort of contract company that hires different types of workers to do contracts that they accepted from other companies.

My issue here is whether or not I should send my personal ID and SIN to them in the sense is it safe? I'm pretty sure someone can do a lot of mischievous things with your personal ID and sin number like open up a bank account, take out of loan, etc. This is in Canada BTW.

All employers, unless those that choose to pay in cash, will ask you for your SIN. I would most likely not provide my ID and SIN online since it's uncertain if they are actually legitimate or not but if they do offer an alternative, like through paperwork, by all means, go for that instead.

Yeah.. I mean make sure the website is safe. For the most part, you're not obligated to give your SIN number - if you want to do it through paper, I'm sure they have an option for you to do so.

Yes, it's normal for employers to request for your ID and SID (SSN in US). Employers can make a copy of your ID but never your SID. I'd definitely not do it online for security purposes.
