It doesn't remove the advantage from paying players, it just gives non-paying players who are dedicated enough to reap the same rewards as the paying players. Through the making of cubes and whatnot.

There's still going to be a hell of a lot of game instability unless they fix the rampant, years-old bugs as well. I don't think many people will come back until that happens (read: until hell freezes over)
That said, RED looks pretty neat and I'll log on to check out the changes in a couple days maybe
