Lessons of all sorts-- either educational or practical-life lessons. Our parents teach us a great deal, typically. They are an influence. Other people too. Mostly just people. People teach us, or influence the things that we know.
Sensory information is stored in the sensory memory for a little bit, then retained as either short-term (active memory, what we're thinking about) or long-term memory (maybe stored in Freud's unconscious, the difficulty of recollection varies).
