Please Critique My Singing

Hi guys. This is "You Were Meant For Me" by Jewel, and an acoustic cover. I'm planning to create four songs for my senior project.

Can you look at my singing and tell me how to improve? Thanks.

Is there anything I can do about other parts? I've listened to the real Jewel play, and she's phenomenal! Other artists, like, say, Muse or Maroon 5 also have male vocalists which are quite talented--what separates them from me? Tone? Control? Volume? Articulation?

It might just be me, but I don't think you're syncing up right. Try a slower song or one that requires less fingering or both....
I like your singing(Sure as heck can sing better than me when I play guitar), my only suggestion is syncing. Whenever I feel like I'm out of sync I listen to the song and sing without my guitar until I get accustomed to the rhythm of the song and lyrics, then I play alongside the song. It's a matter of memorizing how the pronounce and accentuate some words, as well as pauses. Your picking did seem a bit fast too at some parts, but I imagine that's you subconsciously trying to keep up with your singing so once you fix that, it'll fix itself.

like she said, tempo is kinda really important
i felt secondhand embarrassment when you were rushing through the middle and other parts...
you can add more volume and "oomph" without going fast

@RedWolf: i see. but yes, indeed. tempo matters since if you're off beat, the song sounds really awkward.
great just work on your tempo. you probably rushed it in the middle because you were probably getting nervous. it's ok man. we all get that way.
Oh, I only meant to put a bit of feeling into that part. It's a lyrically strong part that I felt needed more volume and "oomph." Does tempo always matter?
