What does this mean?
HI I need someone to tell me their interpretation of this sentence:
"Self-love is the greatest of all flatterers"
if any of you are french, it's originally "L'amour-propre est le plus grand de tous les flatteurs"
THIS IS IMPORTANT I NEED TO KNOW. Thankyou Basil, love you.

Loving yourself is more important than others loving you.
That's pretty bad french... are you sure that's the original? o.O
it just mean it's import to love yourself... like love yourself before you can love another
or it means the opposite, like don't be vain. Pick one side and argue for it, you will get the points either way.
well what you think the author's view of flattery is?
i need to know this for tmrw for my french exam :c
Who is the author? Try researching into his/her personal life so you have a general understanding of his/her world views.
Depends on your view of flattery.
Depends on your view of flattery.

So it's bad?
So it means something like your own self-love can give you a false idea of how great you really are, like how flatterers compliment you insincerely and lead you to believe that you are greater than you really are?

It means flattering yourself is the greatest self-love.
It means that you're your biggest fan and that loving yourself is more important than someone else loving you.
My french is shaky though.
