Science homework help please

I do not understand why multiple loads in parallel can be controlled independently using properly placed switches but multiple loads in series can't. This is physics btw. Thanks for the help

A switch placed in a series circuit will control current through the entire circuit, not any individual segment. A switch placed on one of the branches of a parallel circuit will control current to that branch, but the current is free to flow to other branches, so you can eliminate a load by opening a switch placed before that load.
