Anyone here familiar with the I.T profession?

Okay so... I need to know what list of jobs are available for people who are majoring in I.T related activities in college. And I need to know if trade-schools exist for this profession.

Is there any job i can get that's $40,000 annually if i were to pursue just a trade or 2 year degree? I tried googling all of this but they're sending me all over the place & isn't giving me a clear answer. Also they mostly list bachelor degree related things.

My bible-study guy is trying to help me with this. He recommended me to go back to college rather then finding a job. I stopped going to school for this term because I was failing college & school not really being for me. I did wanted to dedicate this term me finding a job rather then go back to college. If you saw my thread about my mom kicking me out, you'd know the details.

By the way about my mom kicking me out... I think I only have like less then 2 months to figure this stuff out before I'll either have to move in with my dad(god please no) or be homeless.

@windowlegs: I always believed in god actually. Also they did say they can't keep giving me free stuff like that, since I'm suppose to pay my own way and such. There were times where I had to pay for some stuff to chip in. Btw, the meetings are only 2 days a week.

Since I'm not baptized yet, I'm not eligible to do their other religious activities outside of the 2 days of week attendence. They're not gullible. The bible teaches their suppose to do the things they're doing for me to anyone. It's called being a nice guy & being supportive regardless of who you are.

Software engineer working on a devops (IT x developers) teams here.

First, what everyone else saying regarding pay is true. You'll probably make significantly more than just your 40.

Second, be sure you know what the IT profession actually entails. There are people who just truck around equipment and set up cables and wires and there are those who are intimately involved with infrastructure. I'd say it could span anywhere from physical hardware work to very low level (infrastructure and network) software engineering.

Third, stay in whatever group helps you feel good. If your bible study group makes you happy without hindering your motivation/productivity/etc., I'd recommend you stay with them. But like someone else mentioned, it is a fairly competitive field and you would need at least a college level certification without years of experience.

Good luck and happy studies!

@windowlegs: Are you kidding? Like hell it hasn't! My new religious friends has been nothing but supportive & helpful. I've been waaaaaayyyyy happier after getting involved with them compared to how i use to be when i was not so much religious & doing things the general person in the world would do.

Being around them has made my bipolar disorder no where near as much hell on my life compared to how it usually is. I'm going through hardtimes with not being able to find a job & not having money... And they've even paid for my meals & took me out to eat FOR FREE. FREE PIZZA, FREE WHITE CASTLES, CHICKEN...
They've even invited me to their small parties & gatherings, where we enjoyed each others company & played Super Smash bros for the WII u.

Talk about being a nice guy. I much prefer being with them & continuing their religious activities over anything else any day. All of these things combined is more then what I can say about any one else, especially any atheist(No offense loool~) I encountered throughout my lifetime.

They've working on getting me baptized they said so... There's that.
Speaking of the things they're doing for me...
They've also been trying to help me find a job.

There's a good amount of depth of professions in the IT field since computers are so tied in with productivity.

http://www.tomsitpro.com/articles/best-it-certifications,1-1352.html

Unfortunately, a 4-year degree is far more valuable when getting hired since IT jobs do tend to be mid-level. IT is also highly competitive which drives up the hard skill requirements. Extensive education, training, hands-on, and or certifications are expected.

In terms of pay, an new IT professional in the workforce can easily earn more than $40k/yr.

Enterprise, datacenter, healthcare, even selling home and small business computer repair services in a particularly good neighborhoods can be sustainable.

I.T. people get a lot more than $40k a year. And they only fix computer things that I guarantee 90% of Basilers are able to do.

U being serious? I.T. Guy at my company makes almost 80k setting up databases & really just sitting at his desk. Another IT guy I know gets contracted by corporations to do this thing I don't know what it is but he is the security guy for their network. Never asked him because us is already really rich. Make sure you get certified in a lot of Microsoft programs and don't be stupid getting a student loan find grants.
