I screwed up, and I dont know how to fix it
A really good buddy of mine told me he started seeing this girl and asked me for advice on how to really approach her and make it all official. We've been friends for a really long time so naturally I was happy for him and told him everything I knew about girls. I told him to be confident and above all, be himself. About a week after our initial conversation I went to a party and met this really cute girl. We hit it off immediately and started seeing each other almost every day. Fast forward another week or so and my friend comes over to my place, furious. I ask him what's wrong and he tells me that I've been seeing his girl behind his back. I obviously was not aware that the girl I met and the girl he was seeing were in fact the same person. He's been a pretty shy dude as long as I've known him, and he never had a good relationship with his family. I haven't heard from him in a while and I'm worried he might do something to hurt himself.
So basil, I ask you this.
Where did I wrong? I lost a friend, somewhere along in the bitterness. And I would have stayed up with him all night had I known how to save a life.

@AugustRain Yeah, I'm not really a fan of the word troll either.
@ShotGunInc: Ah I would've never gotten that. I'm not really into that genre of music so the only song by The Fray I've ever heard is "Never Say Never," because it was used as the song in the credits of a very well made video of an mmo I used to play. I will admit that Never Say Never sounded pretty good though lol.
I'd just call him or FB him explaining how you had no idea it was the same girl and you wouldn't have gone for her if you knew. Other than that, not much you can do. I will say though that if your friend doesn't really respond, you're into this girl and she's into you and not him, go for it. Obv it wasn't your fault things worked out that way and if your friend won't even bother to consider your apology, then forget him. Don't make yourself and this girl unhappy because of his immaturity.

Just explain to him that you did not know he was dating the same girl. Out of respect you should back off and let him see her.
Even if the girl chooses you now, you should still break it off. you're good bros. He'll understand.
If you don't particularly care for the girl then just truly apologize to him and hope he resolves his own issues on the matter. If you do care about this girl then I don't know.
