Maplestory finally lost me

#dramathread

I compare this game to my old school. I visit the place for nostalgia's sake, but the thing is, I could never stay there right? It's in the past.

This WAS my game of choice. I would play it for hours during my free time. I had a lot of reasons to log in (other than grinding). Reasons that I consider "wasting" my time on. Unfortunately, the game is now a has been. The community is totally different, and most of the old community has moved on. I can never find players these days who just want to do random stuff, or who just wants to fool around. Also, the player base significantly dropped. The game was lively before, now it's duller than ever.

(As a note, Basil/Southperry is seemingly dead as well.)

But then again, years ago, I would also have fun playing solo. It's weird, but even grinding back then was more fun. The un-revamped classes, in my opinion were more fun too. I find it somewhat funny, that the game has better systems, and more content than ever, but I am not feeling that excitement and fun I had before.

I don't think I outgrew the game like some of my friends suggest. I still play my retro games, and I still find them fun.

I think I enjoyed this game before because it HAD personality. All things in old Maplestory were not as generic as today's Maplestory. From the unique maps, to the unique characteristics of the classes, the PQ's, everything, even scrolling equipment.

But unlike most people, I don't blame the exp curve, nor the potential system, nor the faster travel methods, because I do like those changes. I think the execution of some of the changes dumbed down the game.

The old Maple gave a MORE SATISFYING EXPERIENCE. I think because the player had "meaningful" purpose to play the game. Based on what class you made progress on, you had a role. You were needed one way or another. Your existence makes another player have more fun (i.e become more powerful). Now, every class is an attacker.

Traveling the Maple World was also fun. If I'm careful, I could kill that high leveled monster. Now with the accuracy/experience system, THE GAME BECAME LINEAR.

The progress you made in the game also had purpose. I find it sad, that there are systems in the game that could have been big, but in the end, they become useless. I also find it sad that picking up that equipment with hidden potential is trivial because it's not above Level 140. It's trash. I find it also sad that the 4% stat epic shoe I crafted ain't that much. It's not going to help me in the boss fight, and even without it, I still OHKO every monster. Finding materials, and crafting could have been a mini game I could do all week, because the rewards are awesome.

Also, the economy, let's face it, calling it broken would be an understatement, and it will NEVER be fixed.

I guess, friends, and guilds do make the experience better, and I personally lost most of that, because everybody quit. (And I will never forgive the company for the way they handled the db breach back then.) But then again, like I said, solo play was still fun back then.

I know for sure that all the things they do (and don't do) are because of the business needs, but I'm still pretty sad that the game is 'ruined.' I do believe that in general, people will be willing to financially support a hobby they love (or at least like), and in this case gaming. I had my fair share of NX spendings throughout playing Maple in 7 years, added with my free advertising of this game when I was still a free player. And a lot of these people I convinced to play also spent considerable amount of NX. Now, I can never recommend this game with a clear conscience.

I do want to say, that all hope may not be lost, to make the game better again. That is, if gamers actually run the company and not the people wearing black suits.

And with that, I'm off to waste my time (and money) on playing better games!

My first lvl200 was a prebb shadower. I actually felt accomplished but now. My measly 1m per line doesn't cut it anymore, kinda sucks tbh...

I just miss the adventure aspect. I know they had to remove tons of 'useless' maps but was fun to explore. Now there's nothing much to do. You can go anywhere instantly no point to explore anymore.
