Is maple still dead?

Hey guys I've been thinking about coming back after a two year break from nexon banning then unbanning me... Is the population still alive or not? Also I heard the anniversary is coming up so what is the easiest way to make mesos? Thx

To be honest, I went online this week after a break. And there's not that many people online. I was walking around in channel 1 and Maplestory is really empty compared to the previous years.. Even the FM was not completely full.

@MeiGuiHua: Your definition of what is dead for MMOs is entirely impractical.
yah its dying every single one of my friends quit and we were all playing since it came out, the main reason being that were not old enough for jobs( well i am now) therefor we cant kill any bosses. this game is literally about who spends the most money. its kind of pathetic to see people spending thousands of dollars on VIRTUAL items, and it took me a while to realize this aswell. back in 09( or whenever 10 att wgs were still good) this game took teamwork to kill bosses and if you spent 20$ you would pretty much be the best. and seeing as how 20$ isnt much pretty much everyone could be doing decent damage it just depended on your determination. Back when if you had 10 att wgs, a zhelm, vss's and a sauna robe you were the best! all those things could be obtained through hardwork or like i said earlier A slight amount of money. but now 10$ will literally get you NO WHERE! you have to spend atleast 300$ to be decent. once they added cubes the game was just ruined...
You have absolutely no clue what you are talking about. The only thing back then that could give you an advantage was gacha, selling the nx, SoK/hammer, and 2x coupons. Those weren't even that p2w and $20 wouldn't get you anywhere near to getting good gear

@GazimoEnthra: Well there is at least 1 person on so the game isn't dead. If it was 0 players on then yes the game is dead

Maple has had 10-20k people at PEAK times for 3 years straight.

The game is dead compared to any other MMO.

Lots of online games are on decline. For example one of the oldest mmorpg's Everquest went through a decline, had to merge servers 2 or 3 times. And even picked up the Free2Play business model. Still releasing content on a regular basis. I thought Everquest would be dead by now but it isn't.

Maplestory is just in decline like all the other online games.

A certain minecraft server's peak (minecraft players might know without me saying it) was above 25k. If Maplestory can't beat a minecraft server, then I'm slightly worried.

Yeah, so long as Maple's still turning a profit (which it certainly still is!) Nexon will always keep it going. Once it doesn't though, kaput. But I doubt that'll happen any time soon.

20,000 isn't fantastic but it beats out a lot of download-based games. If you just leaf through more obscure ones, like LaTale for example that only pulls in a couple of thousand at 'peak times'. I'm just saying, if games like that keep going why shouldn't Maplestory?

Edit: And besides, if you think GMS is dying EMS'll go first for sure So that'll definitely telegraph it for you guys, am I right? Haha.
Well I wouldn't say maple is dead exactly, Nexon is still making enough money to keep this game running so that's telling you something.
The game is being kept alive by people who spend copious amounts of money on nx to get the absolute best gear, which takes a ton of money.

Highest ever peak was around 136k right after BB. The peaks today are 1/6 of what they were 4 or 5 years ago. Maple has been declining for a while now.
There's barely a third of the people that were on back in like 2009 or 2010.
Which is not the same as the game being dead. The game population is just slowly going down.
Haha, everyone thinks MapleStory is dying too funny MapleStory is doing fine the only problem MapleStory has under 1million players is because nexon region blocked and also because they don't promote the game anymore like they used to.

I hardly call having 20k players a dead game however MapleStory like any game is kinda pointless all you can do is train the reason im losing interest in MapleStory is im tried of spending money of this game because people wanna over price virtual items.
Even if nexon was to make this game a none pay to win game i still wouldn't be interested because the community is ruined.
Maple isn't even close to having as much people now as it did a few years back. I guess 20k is a decent amount of people for a game but it used to be MUCH higher than that and if Nexon actually listened to their players and didn't try to milk them for everything just to be decent in the game, then it may have stayed at that number. You know why the community is ruined? Because the game is ruined. The community which made this game fun left. All group aspects of this game went to poop and became easy enough for everyone to solo so there is no longer making friends from doing PQs, which by the way were the best thing about Maplestory IMO.
@Opening: it does not mean its dead there are still active people in other worlds
runescape is 50k+

@Opening jagex is beating nexon because they actually listen to the players, they now have polls where people can vote for things.

The anniversary is almost halfway done, if you're gonna start, start now and get as much profit as you can because leaves just went down half in price.
